Make sure you are eating a good meal about an hour before your workout. Complex carbs and lean protein would be ideal.

Probably a lack of iron. Talk to your doctor about it.

This happened to me today... If I get lightheaded, should I keep going or take a breather for a few minutes?

Yeah this happens to me when I do squats(which is why I don't do them). I get really dizzy and lightheaded and feel like I'm going to faint.

Careful! When that happens less blood reaches your head and ofcourse blood carrys oxygen. Make sure you breath while lifting. I cant belive how many guys dont breath right during lifts. If you can check your blood pressure just to make sure its nothing else. Other than that you might just have heat stroke or dehydrated.

    Copied verbatim from http://www.mamashealth.com/nutrition/anemia.asp

"Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin, the oxygen carrying pigment in the blood. Iron is normally obtained through the food in the diet.

Iron is part of hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of the blood. Iron-deficient people tire easily because their bodies are starved for oxygen. Iron is also part of myoglobin. Myoglobin helps muscle cells store oxygen. Without enough iron, the body's fuel cannot be properly synthesized."

When I first started weight lifting I used to have a similar problem. After about 20-30 minutes in the gym I would start to feel dizzy and lightheaded, almost to the point of fainting a few times. Since then I have worked on my breathing technique while working out, I drink a ton of water, and a little bit before working out I have a decent meal. Now I don't feel light headed any more, only ocassionally when lifting heavy weights but it goes away pretty fast. You should also look into your iron levels because I know some of my family members are iron deficient and easily get light headed when exercising.

eat something before lifting and get lots of water my anatomy teacher said that you know that your hydrated if your piss is the same color as water. I used to get lightheaded all the time then started eating before lifting and drinking lots of water and never felt lightheaded since then. Getting lots of sleep help too

That's why I hate "high" reps. I did 3 sets of 10 reps of deadlift as fast as possible (in order to shake the girl's locker room below me) and I nearly blacked out. Take a breather and try to breathe more often. Slow it down if you need to.

that only happens to me when I am doing cleans. I finished with a lightheaded feel, then I close my eyes real hard, open them up and all I see is black for a second.

Sorry to say, but I have never experienced any of this and I train just as hard as the next guy. I drink water between sets, and have a decent meal (60g protein) and 10g's of creatine before I go workout.
