Ok Yeah, sorry I shouldn't have gave advice but I did use something similar when I was at the gym...same design some differences...there's nothing wrong with it, but this seems kind of big for a half rack...that's all I'm trying to say really...there's got to be something a bit smaller...was just saying this because alot of guys try to save the most space possible when putting stuff in their home gyms...

Well, after looking at some of the specs of that half rack..... http://www.samsonequipment.com/111MSSL_Spec.htm ("SAMSON #111MSSL SAFETY RACK/STORAGE/CHIN BAR
This unique Olympic rack combines upper body movements, lower body and Olympic movements; constructed of 3"x 3" x .188 steel sq. tubing (7 gauge) which is 50% thicker than 11 gauge.
Uprights allow lifters to perform squats, bench press, shoulder press, and many other exercises with locking adjustable safety bars.
Safety catches are constructed of 2?"x2?"x.188 steel square tubing (7 gauge) which is 50% thicker than 11 gauge, and ?"x 3" flat strap......").....You can be assured that as far as build quality goes, it totally BLOWS AWAY just about all of the racks, "full" or not, that are discussed to death on a daily basis on this forum. 3"x3" 7 gauge ??? Thats some heavy duty stuff. Some people prefer a half rack for various reasons, and that one (according to the specs) is built extremely well. Let us know how you like it if you do wind up purchasing it.Don't complicate things by making things complicated.....

i finally was going to get the rack, the guy had shown me this picture on craigslist
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/spo/381770985.html
now he says
"Just a warning, the rack ins't pretty as it's been stored in a shed that has
exposure to the outside air. Surface rust will be present. Most of it can
be removed with steel wool, etc... The steel tubing is in good shape
however with surface rust only showing where the paint has been chipped. If
the rack is for personal use, you may not care about appearance. If you're
putting it into a gym/personal training studio, you may want to look at
putting a new power coat on it - Not sure how much that would cost.. It is
black, so you could probably get it looking pretty good with some touch up
paint."
should i still get it?

Damn on that pic it actually looks like a great half rack...I really like this...I think this is perfect for the home gym....think about it you have loads of place to squat and if you feel any pain or whatever you can take a step towards the spotters (like you don't always have to be lined up with the spotters is what I am trying to say
Well maybe you could ask him to send a few pics...I don't think rust matters that much, because there's all kinds of products you can clean it with...

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with half-racks...but I don't see much advantage to them either. I think they mostly appeal to people who are under the mistaken impression that a half-rack takes up much less floor space. A full rack provides more front to back working space over the spotters, and you can't accidentally wander outside of the spotter space. I'm also not convinced that those half-racks can take the kind of abuse that an otherwise comparable full rack could (because of how the spotter bars are supported.) *shrug*
Personally, I'd much rather have something like this thing, but it's not as if the world will end if you get a half-rack. :-)
