Ramadan and bodybuilding
Asalamu alaikum wa rahmutallahi wa barakatuhu,
Brothers and sisters,
As you know, Ramadan is right around the corner. I'm excited about it. I don't know what it is about that month, but I always welcome it. It is a time for us to strengthen our hearts and minds. Inshaallah we shall try to keep our bodies strong as well throughout this great month.
My question to you all (and non-Muslims feel free to post) what tips do you have for trying to keep size/strength during this month?
Here are a few that I recommend:
-Don't go all out on the first meal. Make it a small one so you can eat others that same night.
-Fill up a gallon of water and constantly sip it after aftoor. Make sure it is empty before you fast the next day.
-Drink a large casein shake with milk before sunrise.
Any other suggestions?
Please no trolling or flaming.

-Avoid doing anything too physical during the day. If you're a student or have an office job this is very helpful.
-Avoid the hot sun, as it can make you feel weak and drained.
-Get a good meal in at "sahoor", the pre dawn meal..
Hmm.. that's all I got for now

Can you eat as much as you want during the allowed times?
If so, just eat like crazy when you are allowed.

It better to stick to the basic and do what the prophet does. I really think that the casein stuff is abit expensive and wast of money because you body takes what it want naturally.
Start with dates and milk first and then go to pray eat before you sleep is better than eating after you wake up for suhur

actully people eat less, because they are hunger but eat pretty quick so they get full up pretty fast
In Ramadan it is not only food but you have to do more things.

Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmat Allah wa barakatuh,
I'm going to be doing this, inshallah.
I did something very similar last Ramadan. I was doing the cut diet, only instead of eating six meals spread throughout the day, I had four meals after sunset with the same ammount of calories and macros. I lost a good ammount of fat and my strength went up.

I think managing food the same way you normally do, but do it when you can eat. I think the harder part will be getting to the gym and having the energy to finish a workout.

I work 3rd shift now so eat three meals there which my last one will be oatmeal and a probolic sr shake. I can probaly get one meal in before work which will be post-workout. My gym doesn't stay open late but al-hamdu lilaah we have a weight room in the basement of the masjid. I just havent thought about what program to do. I am considering a high rep squat program cause i don't wanna lose to much weight if any. As-Salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatu

I'm going to try that Intermittent Fasting, that EOY posted. As far as lifting goes, hopefully i'll be able to lift more than 30 minutes, unlike last ramadan.

I think the nutruions during ramadan get into you body faster
it abit early to prepare for Ramadan you need to wait one day after Eid to make this thread

i'm not sure how long the fasting period is for ramadan but i am doing IF, and 16 hours is manageable especially if you get your target calories/macros in the other 8 hours. if you're partaking in ramadan, check out the thread or get with eoy on specifics. the thread is up to 60+ pages and can be cumbersome.

Salam alaikom....
Intermittent dieting for periods after Ramadan is also great because... it enables the body to cleanse and naturally detox, which helps to combat the development of food allergies. See fasting is GOOD for you - physically and emotionally and spiritually

yeah, they really need a sticky or separate thread for basics. pretty much, for IF, you would fast for 16 hours and eat during the other 8 hours. you take your calories and macros that you would consume from 5-6 meals over a normal 12-16 hour period and consume them all within an 8 hour window. you use the same calories, same macros. the only difference is that your eating window is smaller. i include my weight training during the 8 hour eating window with a pre/post workout meal as i feel better working out in a fed state as opposed to fasted state. some people are training in a fasted state. preference is up to you. i am getting leaner and my weight really has not gone down too much. hope that helps.

Try to work out in the morning, after a good pre-dawn meal.
Try not to miss taraweeh congregational prayer in the evening just to work out
If you can handle it, work out before sunset then break your fast.
Supplicate often and you won't lose strength or size.

Don't you feel really drained throughout the day if you work out in the morning?
Does anybody do any cardio? I'm thinking about doing some low intensity cardio for 20-30 minutes 3x/week prior to breaking my fast.
