    Whats so great about oats?

Seems like some how or another oats is in everyones diets. My question is why is it such a vital/important part of your nutrition?

i actually prefer oat bran compared to regular oats. 80g oat bran is 196 cals vs 300 for oats, so you can actually eat a lot more.

yeah bran is ok, but i find oats taste better, sometimes i add like 15g of bran to 80-100g of oats if i want more thickness, but if you get good oats you dont need it

as for brands of oats, you gotta try a few, the cheap one are usually crap that dont absorb the water, try paying a little more for your oats, to get quality ones that absorb the water, and produce a thick delicious bowl of creamy oats!

All I gotta say is I love how they taste. And they've got a pretty great nutritional profile with a very small price tag attached to it.

I started my first bulking diet tuesday and I've been having trouble downing 3 cups of oats a day. Does any one use artificial sweetener in their mush?

They taste nice. Oats and a couple of tsp of brown sugar..mmm. Btw, sugar phobia is overblown, don't feel pressured to be sucked in by people pimping splenda. A little sugar in your diet will not effect body comp, overall health or nutrient density.

    Thumbs up

I do eat them all day long...

And I put them in my shakes every day.

Mmm just like a thick milkshake.

Also, don't forget that oats also contain protein.

oats are not the best carb source but compared to other whole grains they are certainly the easiest to prepare, most versatile, one of the cheapest, and they leave you feeling full and satisfied (great when cutting).....they also go great grinded up in shakes

IMO other whole grains along w/ sweet potatoes and beans are better carb sources....but the the difference is marginal so eat em up anyway cuz they are great for you.

I loves me some Old fashioned oats.
Bought "quick oats" by accident once, man they just did not taste the same.
Old fashioned has such a great texture I could sit there and eat em raw with a sppon.

I get the lowans rolled oats from coles/woolworths. They are definitely the best I have tried. I soak them in hot water in the pot overnight and when I cook them in the morning they come out delicious. Mosst of the oats I have bought here tell you to soak them for at least 15 mins prior to cooking, so overnight is good and gives it the texture I love.
