Lifting

I lifted a little bit in high school and in college and know my way around a weight room. However sometimes I do get intimidated by the guys that are in the weight room. I feel pretty comfortable that I know what I am doing when I am in there but I feel like the guys are looking at me trying to figure out what I am doing in "their" area.

I really wanted to start doing squats and using some of the "big" equipment in the weight room but I am intimidated. It sounds stupid because I go in the weight room and use the free weights but I am timid to use the squat racks. What is wrong with me???

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get over my "stupid" fear of using the equipment and not constantly worrying that the guys are "peeved" that I am in "their" area????

Have someone go with you a couple of times and make sure they are someone who knows what they are doing. When those men see you working your ass off in "their" area they'll have to get the **** over it.

I got a personal trainer that is a bodybuilder himself and hes teaching correct form for dead lifts and squats. Today he showed me a way to turn my arm while doing a bicep curl that better isolated the muscle. He is getting me use to the free weights side so I will feel confident there no matter what. Most of the time, I am the only girl in there but I wont let their stares get in the way of my goals.

I used to get looks at the gym too. The best thing you can do is just ignore them and focus on your workout. Once you become a "regular" in the area it'll be a little more comfortable.
