There are over 1 billion muslims, a few middle eastern leaders do not represent the religion.

OK, so you believe that SK is an extremist. While I disagree, I still don't see why one extremist would stop you from joining Islam. I'd also like you to cite one example of SK contradicting himself, he is by far one of the best religious debaters on this board. I have yet to see a Christian member hold his own in an argument about Christianity-what it usually boils down to is, "fine dont beleev in god but have fun in hell LOL!" The fact remains that Islam is centuries behind most of the rest of the world in terms of cultural norms. Women are treated as second class citizens, and as disposable objects. It is almost completely intolerant of foreign religions, and the different branches of the Islamic faith often fight amongst themselves. However, these are actually social and political issues rather than religious ones.

The sad thing is that Islam as a religion is being used as a tool. The elitist leaders of these countries use the Islamic faith as a medium through which to warp the minds of the masses in order to further their own agendas. Religion is a very potent tool through which to control the commoners in those countries, as most of the media is controlled by the government, and religious beliefs run deep.

There is nothing inherently wrong with Islam (nothing more so than with other religions). It's just that it's being exploited and perverted by the egocentric leaders who are willing to whore out their religion in order to bring down their enemies.
