I steam mine. They usually end up soft and sweet enough on their own. Olive oil on top isn't a bad idea either.

Why not eat the whole thing? Is it for caloric reasons or is the skin of the yam/potato not good for you? I'm honestly curious about this, because I just microwave my sweet potatoes until they're soft (6-9 minutes depending on size) and eat them whole.

Cook it like you would a regular potato...

And if you're concerned about how many calories are in one, weigh it, and look up it's nutritional facts...

i'm a calorie counter. (200g/1cup is 180cals and 40g carbs or something like that) i just looked it up. And one whole sweet potato (at least the ones i bought) sure look like a hellofa lot more than 1 cup, more like 3-5cups haha.

I use to cut mine in chunks, place in a plastic bag (kind you bring food home in), put a few holes in the bag, place on a plate and mircowave til soft.

After they would cool, pop them out of the skins, mix with splenda, cinnamon and a lil nutmeg and vanilla. mash all together.

Easy way to scoop out what you need.

    1) skin on or off...boil them for an hour (or until you can easily stick a scewer into the middle). After that you an use a food scale to weigh your desired ounces.

    2) If the potatoes are not too huge...spray them with PAM and then wrap them up in foil; bake! Weigh! Eat!

    3) When I'm craving chips, I'll slice them really thin and broil them till they are crispy on the outside; if I want french fries..I shape them and bake them

But, I alway eat them plain. Some people use Splenda or honey to give it sweetness.

    sweet potato fries...

cut them into fries, place tin foil in broiler, add a little olive oil top and bottom, sprinkle cinnamon. broil for about 5 minutes.

quick and easy. Costco use to sell the fries in a 2lb bag but not anymore. I've seen them sold at a few supermarkets but a little pricey.

I eat them as 'normal' potatoes, boiled and mashed (with salt + skim milk), or seasoned and roasted in an oven. Also I will pan fry them after being boiled or baked, fry them crispy for breakfast.

I like them cut into chunks and then baked with crushed garlic, salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, olive oil and red onion julienned thin.
Combine all but the onion together and bake.
When they are about done lightly coat the onion with olive oil as well and integrate into what is already baking.
Turn it on broil for a few minutes to get great carmelization and flavor.

Now I gotta go home and do this again tonight!

I normally have the smaller ones, but I just microwave them and eat them skin on. some times I'll split a larger one open and sprinkle some cinnamon on it.

but really they taste great just plain and I don't get why people don't like the skin (same with kiwi), just make sure its washed and eat the skin to

buy smaller ones if the size is an issue.

slice into small pieces, microwave on a plate with a bit of water added for moisture. 4 mins on high, turning once at 2mins. add some unsweetened yoghurt and dill at the end. mix in some grilled chicken too

I just bought mine, a yam (the white sweet potato), it was sooo hard to find, dont know why.

The yellow sweet potato, I made pancakes, shred it and mix it with whatever you want.

    QUESTION
When would you eat it when you try to cut and go for definition?and how much of course?

i usually slice and boil mine, then drain and make mashed yams from them. i add my olive oil (8 servings) and garlic and whatever other spices and separate into 8 cup-sized measurements, that way i know exactly what im getting

    i LOVE yams

during a cutting diet, the best time for something carb heavy like yams would probably be in your pwo meal, after your pwo shake. Yams and lean protein+veggies makes a great post workout meal
