deadlifting with hex bar

at my school we use hex bar instead of normal bar for deadlifts.
is it harder to use a hex bar? or is it easier? and is it more effictive in gaining muslce?

Easier - you can handle more weight as the lever length is shortened.

I seriously doubt it is more effective for gaining muscle.

Tried and true old school methods will always dominate. My gym has tractor tires that I could deadlift but I choose to use the bar.
