    Question What's a good 100m time?

hey i'm 14, 8th grade, i play baseball, and wrestle and i only weigh 126 at 5ft 8. just wondering what a good 100m dash time would be for my age as i'm gonna do track this year at my school, and i wanna start training soon. thanks

I would say the 13 range is about accurate. I ran around a 14 in 8th grade and now I'm in the low to mid 11's as a senior.

Would just doing sprints everyday help me get better or would i have to something else to get better?

Sprinting is the only thing that can help you get better at sprinting, but a good workout that works your core and legs would be helpful as well (squats, dead lifts, etc.)

Speaking of that girl who can run a 12.0.. I'd watch out for her in the olympics. Girls in high school that are the best in my state run around a 12.

so just sprinting on flat ground? cause i've heard of going uphill helps too.
    thanks

Sprinting uphill will decrease your stride frequency. If anything, I would sprint on a slight decline so my muscle memory becomes adjusted to a faster frequency and longer stride. Do a search on these boards, there is a TON of information.

Great advice, but i have heard running downhill increases pressure on pounding and therefore is bad for the knees so if you're going to do this do it on grass.

Don't go down hill, go up hill. Obviously slower frequency (downhill has equal disadvantages in this respect), but it forces full triple extention and also puts you in a good accel position. Also, the decreased speed can keep ham injuries from happening.

it depends on who you are. Like me, i run track, and i run 11.2. I'm 14, 118, 5"6. But, I think the average person who doesn't run track should run 13.00 or below.

Even though I posted earlier, I do agree with going uphill as well. Didn't clarify that to begin with. When I was in middle school, our coach made us run the steepest hill I've seen to this point in my life. It helped with leg strength.

Come talk to me when you have 3 guys that run a 10.3 on the same team. Haha, school named West Charlotte here in North Carolina has been absolutely stacked for as long as I can remember. 3 out of the 4 fastest guys in the 100m in the state went to that school last year.

130 pounds? ****son, sprinters aren't made to be that thin. Put some mass on yourselves...

back in the day, in 8th grade, i ran about a 13 flat in the 100...which was damn good at the time. so, go for that. but, you just don't decide to be a sprinter -- i started out as an 800 runner. you need to find your groove to find your race.
