Lifting weights to lose fat?
How are you guys doing? I want to lose alot of weight, im doing 30 minutes of cardio/walking everyday. If i start a weight lifting program in addition to my cardio, would that help me lose more weight than just cardio alone? My main goal is to lose the weight, so i wasnt sure if i should start lifting weights now or after i lose the weight. Also what would be better, using heavy weights for low reps or using moderate weights for high reps, and to anybody who has lost alot of weight what was your weight lifting plan if you had one? Thanks and God Bless.

lifting weights owns cardio to lose fat !! u will end up looking better if u lift weights to loose fat rather than just cardio, offcourse cardio is important too, but muscle is more important.
u need something to show off once the fat is gone, so lift those heavy weights lol !!!

^^^ What they said. Lifting will do the trick, but you have to stay committed. Good luck.

Yes weights is a must. I have lost 69 pounds so far but only adapted weights half way through because i was an idiot, make sure you lift to help prevent muscle loss and because you are a noob body builder you get the lucky ''lose fat and build muscle at same time affect'' which will last you for a few months. Do heavy weight with 6-12 reps of it. I go to failure everytime which is 8 reps for me. Look at my signiture for my weight lifting plan and if you need help with nutrition just p.m me i can send you some good stuff.

Cardio is very important for losing weight AND increasing your metabolism so don't get too carried away just thinking "oh wow lifting weights is the answer". Believe me I've met plenty of fat guys who did nothing but lift, and no cardio.
I'm constantly preaching the importance of attacking things from all possible angles. Examples are using both high and low intensity cardio to get your fast and slow twitch muscles trained, then there's using high weight low rep, long rest interval - and lower weight, higher rep, short rest interval weight training...
If you really want to transform your body you can't leave any gaps. If you start from the beginning with a powerhouse of knowledge from the experts instead of wading through it blindfolded with disappointing trial and error, you'll notice improvements much faster, and you'll be much happier.

It occurs to me I didn't nail down a difinitive point.
Make sure you take your cardio just as seriously as you weight training. Make sure you balance both properly and don't overdo it. Make sure you're allowing rest days, at least one per week. Recovery time is important to your progress which is why it's best to space out which areas you target with your weight training and keep long bouts of cardio seperate from weight training days.
I hope some of this helps.

Actually, if you're weight training and doing cardio, you still can be fat. People don't just become skinny because they added in cardio for those extra 300-400 calories. When it comes down to it, diet takes the cake. Lifting and cardio are pointless if you don't have a good diet. Same with supplements. No pointing supplementing with whey, NO2, BCAAs, etc if you're eating snickers all day. This is my personal opinion:
Diet>Weights>Cardio>Supplements
Diet numero uno and supplements numero cuatro. I think a more active life style is needed too. Some people are just coach potatoes. They'll go to the gym, take their suppies, etc. But then again, I'm more into the athletics so it may not be for everyone to be more active. I personally like going for walks with my girlfriend, playing golf/basketball/tossing a baseball or football around with my brother, etc. That all makes a big difference in the end.

i lift 5 days a week at the moment.. ive lost about 30- 40lbs in the past 3 months mainly with just doing weights, ive started jogging now as i never thought id of been able to do it the size i was i started at just over 20 stone (280lbs) and im now down to just over17 stone now 250lbs (ish), ive got a lot still to go but i can testify to how much you can loose while lifting.. Not only does it come off fast if you have a good programme but when its coming off you start to begin looking a lot better while loosing it as your gaining muscle too. This was without a proper diet either ive now gone onto one that i read on these forums and started jogging a couple of miles a day before doing the weights. my weight programme is on my bodyspace page i dunno if its much use so feel free to critisize but yeah man id definately go for lifting to loose fat its made me feel amasing.. The compliments you get too are great motivation im at the stage that i love going to my gym and you`d need a crowbar to get me out of there.
hope this is helpful lotta it was this site that got me where i am and im grateful to the people/articles on here so wanna try help others the way i was
