Chest 3x a week too much?

Is this too much? I work out at home and my barbell can only support 110lbs, which is hardly resulting in lifting to exhaustion. So I figured lifting at this moderate weight level 3x a week would not be over-kill. What are your thoughts?

People have trained bodyparts 3x a week for a long time. I think your idea is good given your situation.

Try doing "post exhaust"-go right to push-ups when you are done your bench set.

I think it's time to by some new iron man. Sporting goods stores usually sell sets with around 300lbs or so included.

110lbs is going to get light real fast if it hasn't already.

    too many

If you are only going to use a small amount of weight try approaching the lift different. Change the tempo. Do a 5 second negative, hold for 2 seconds at the treshold point, and then do a 4 second raise. If you have a spotter, load the weight and then have them push down at the bar and control the pace in which you raise the bar. You will feel an amazing push and it will equal to doing your max for each rep. Even though you are using a light weight it is still breaking down muscle fibers and they will still need time to rest so they can grow.

    Thumbs up Pushup variations

If I couldnt go to a gym I would do lots of pushup variations and close-grip bench the weight you have (for tri's).

If pushups are really easy for you, try putting some plates in a backpack, strap it up tight and go for it. Be careful though.

You're in no danger of overtraining with a light weight like that.

i would disagree; regardless of weight (although with not enough weight you arn't going to get very far), your body does need breaks.

exactly, no matter what when you put the extra tension on the muscle the fibers will tear. It needs rest to repair and grow.

Agreed. If the user is doing high volumes with that weight, it could lead to overtraining.

Weight doesn't mean a thing, if you trained with enough volume doing push-ups you can over train.

Well if you equate more to bigger gains then might as well do chest 6 times a week.
