Question Opinions plz on a keto diet for contest prep??

My personal trainer put me on a keto diet, as in I only consumed like around 8 - 10gms of carbs Monday thru Friday and then of course carb load on weekend, I was on this diet for the entire preparation for the contest (6 months), question here is whether this was the ideal diet?? Couldn't I gain more muscle if I added carbs to my diet. ANother thing... I have used along with my preparation some "chemical enhancement" things. As to now I don't know if this was the right way to go since he stills uses this method on preparing girls for bb contest or figure. I gained muscle while on my preparation, but not as much...as I would expected using roids.
Need opinions please, couse I wanna get ready again for a contest but I don't know if this is the way to go as for the diet.

I'm using keto 11 weeks out from my contest. In regards to the "chemicals", shoot me a PM, I might be able to help.

You COULD gain more muscle in less time if you ate carbs, but the LBM will come with less fat gain if you use keto to bulk during your off-season (which I think was your question)
