ATG squatting

When I first started out I was having issues getting quads to parallel, after a month of stretching I'm doing ATGs now. One issue that bothers me is my right hip (least I think its my hip) hurts a good bit for a while after I do it, hurts till I squat again which is two days later.. Is this ok? I don't mind the pain at all, as long as its a good one.... if that makes sense. I didn't know your hip was supposed to hurt while squatting. Any info would make me feel better. =D

as in your hip joint and not the muscles around your hips? that's not supposed to happen. Try changing how far apart your feet are placed and find the most comfortable position.

To be honest I dont know if its the muscles around the hip or the hip itself. I just got done jogging. Norm I go out for an hour, I had to cut it short by 25 min; I could hardly walk. Reguardless if its the muscles or the join itself, I know something is not right. How not right I have no clue. Think Im going to take it easy for two days, the see what its like. If it doesnt improve Im heading to the doctor.

This is the first time in two months of trying to get fit I have been dissapointed in myself. Thanks a bunch for the post.

I have had very similar problems in the past...hip pain and pain when jogging after squatting. For me, the cause was that I hadn't stretched out my hip muscles and hip flexors properly. If you go ATG with squats you work your hips more than when you stop at parallel. Do a Google search on "Hip Stretches" or "Hip Flexor Stretches" and you will find some stretching ideas. I usually ride the exercise bike for about 10 miutes to get warmed up and then stretch my hips and hamstrings for about 5 minutes before doing squats. It's made a world of difference.

Yep. ATG squats involve more hip muscles. When I first started squatting this way, I had some hip issues. Most likely it is your hip muscles not being as strong as your other muscles (as you have been using them in regular squats).

The other problem is most likely the fact that you are squatting with only two days rest. I've squatted 2 times a week often, but the first month or so, I didn't feel like I had fully recovered between sessions. It takes a while for your body to adapt to the increased frequency. If you are running too, that could definately compound your problem.

You might want to lighten up on the volume of squats or reduce the running. I guess only you can answer that. Let your body adapt, then bring up the volume again.
