The articles you read were correct to a certain degree. If you do heavy pressing movements consistently without warming up correctly and without strict form you will definately wear out your rotators. When training shoulders I think it is in your best interest to use Wieder's pre-exhaust principle. I always warm up using dumbell raises and dumbell presses before going into any heavy pressing. Furthermore, I don't perform behind the neck presses as much anymore. If I do I will do it on a smith machine to focus the weight on a vertical plane with my shoulders as opposed to a multiple angles when supporting a barbell which stresses the rotator to a much higher degree.
