Jenny Craig VS doing it yourself? I need advice.

I need advice on how to lose weight. I am thinking about signing up for Jenny Craig to make sure that I will lose weight but it's very expensive to go that route. If there is another way I don't know how to go about doing so.

What would you all do? I don't know how to eat right or have consistency with meals and snacks. Hell, I don't know what to buy or where to start. I know the basics about what not to drink and what's bad for you but to keep this diet going for the long haul I'm not sure.

What route would you go here? I am at a crossroads with my plans. Any help suggestions would be great. Thank you.

Alot of my weight gain came from me having a ruptured L-5 Disc in my lower back last year. I had surgery March 2006 and prior to my surgery I could not hardly walk. I was living like this for about 10 months before my surgery. I could not PT or excercise at all let alone walk or walk normal.

Now that I had my surgery I am ok to start excersise again. I have permanent sciatic nerve damage from my left buttox to my left ankle but I am ok to run with no pain. It hurts to lay on my back and do sit ups so those are out of the question. but everything else is ok for me to do.

I have never weighed this much in my life and I am ashamed that I am at 240 Ibs at 5ft 9inches. I need to get out of this trap and get back to my normal weight.

Any help with work outs and eating right would be much appreciated.

Go see a Dietitian or a Nutritional Consultant. Get started on a fitness regimen ASAP.

I used to weigh 186lbs and i tried doing Jenny Craig to lose weight and it didn't work. They don't teach you how to eat healthy for the rest of your life. They only "TELL" you what to do to lose weight with meals and their garbage. You'll lose weight and then gain it back and go right back to them. It's a business thats how they make their money.

I'm a nutritional consultant and about 60% of my clients are ex- jenny craig/ weight watchers members lol

I agree with Nicolets9.

There's a place you reach where discipline cannot come from ANYONE else but yourself. Jenny Craig is a shortcut...which can be helpful...but if that shortcut eliminates some of the need for discipline, then you'll just find yourself coming back to Jenny Craig in worse shape a year or two from now.

If you have the money, fitness is a great way to spend it. Gym membership + personal trainer, meet 2x/week + professional nutritionalist + food journal (write down everything you eat to make sure you're eating the right amount of calories to lose weight).

Do this for 6 months strong and you'll probably be 50-75lb lighter, BUT you'll have excellent habits that can last you a LIFETIME if you maintain them. What a wealth of information you'll have - 6 months worth of workouts and 6 months of journalled, recorded eating habits. At that point, you can even take the trainer & nutritionalist off the payroll, keep the gym membership, and maintain the fat loss!

The bottom line: think long-term. If you do the write thing for the long term (no crash diets), for long enough, then eventually you'll wake up and find yourself in great shape with a body to die for!

Dave

P.S. As much as appearance is a strong (and good) motivator for weight loss...having lost 60lb in the last 6-7 months, I can testify that the benefits go SO much farther than appearance. I sleep better...have more energy...much much better endurance. I just feel like I can enjoy life more, like I have fewer restrictions. Even more reason to do it the right way the first time!

I have to say that although it is not for me I have seen people do well on weight watchers. One of my friends weighed about 400lbs. and through weight watchers he is now below 300lbs and still losing. He didn't eat their foods or anything, he mainly used it as a method of motivation, and for that it worked great.

i actually worked for jenny craig...
its all bull...your basically paying for people to organize and make your food smaller.
its way overpriced and not worth it i think...

if you want to lose weight, try and eat 6 small meals a day and exercise
