Unhappy Any Vets out there ( Serious! )

My 7 yr old lab has lost about 10 lbs in the past 3 weeks. I just found out the Lab across the street has had the same symptoms!! The vet was thinking it was lymphoma due to the high white blood count; it seems odd that two dogs that play together are having the same symptoms.

10+ lbs weight loss, panting, low energy, loss of appetite, neighbors lab has a hard time getting up. Do any of these symptoms point to something that is contagious. I just think that it is odd that 2 dogs have the same symptoms.

Full blood work will be ready Monday, but that seems like a decade away FROM NOW......

Thanks..

The symptoms you list are fairly general. There are countless conditions that can cause them. Does your dog get into trash? Eat bones? Is your dog up to date on vaccinations? Would anyone want to poison your dog? (does he bark too much, crap in other peoples yards, dig up gardens, etc.)

Is his abdomen distended or seem "tight"?

There are just to many things it could be, it would be a very good idea to let your vet know about the other dog. I've seen stuff like this a lot, don't worry Im sure your dog will be fine. Animals get sick just like we do.

No trash, no bones. My dog is up today on shots. Poision is not out of the question....3-4 weeks ago were the start of the symptoms for both dogs.

Both dogs abs stomachs are inward, not bloated.

thanks....

It will be...I can't tell you how many times I've delt with this in horses, cats, and dogs, usually is just a virus and they need antibiotics for a week.

Not eating much, or not eating at all? Drinking?

Not much you could do until monday anyway. He needs a proper exam and bloodwork to determine the next steps. Keep him as comfortable and as well hydrated as you can until monday.

If things get worse, I'd get him to an after-hours hospital.

he eats 1 cup every few days drinking is decreased.

YEah the Vet did a full blood work yesterday, due to the high white blood count he put him on a anti-B and prendistone. Full results will be in Monday. Today I saw my neighbor, and learned his dog has been ill too. 2 sick dogs, I was hoping the vets first thoguht of Lymphoma was wrong due to the other dogs symptoms. Just hoping it not Lymphoma....

Thanks guys

Put him on dat dere Cell Tech.
Seriously though, have both dogs shared the same food at some point? That happened to my cousins dogs, turned out something was in the food.
Are there any bites or scratches on them?

Thanks for the concern!

I dont have good news to report....

99.8 percent sure it is Leukemia, they are doing a IFA test to rule out Ehrlichia.

They want to do a Bone marrow test Thursday to find the cancer and type. Not really sure why, I guess for better treatment options if there are any.

Has anyone done cemo on thier dogs? Any feedback is welcome. I dont want to put him thru hell for my benifit, I want him to have a high quality of life. If cemo will give that to him over the next 6-12 months then I would do it in a second. If he is going to be depressed, lathargic and a total 180 from how everyone has come to know him then I dont want to put him through that!

Thanks for you support

RIP my good friend!

Some of you know my Labrador Bailey was suddenly ill beginning last week. Once we received the blood tests Saturday, out biggest fears were confirmed: leukemia. He declined so fast that a blood transfusion was needed just to keep him alive before the bone marrow test. The doctors and labs didn?t know what type of leukemia it was or what organs it was affecting. Due to his rapid decline in his health this week we made the decision not to put him through the painful tests.

Wednesday night Bailey was euthanized. This was the right decision, the vet on call was amazed he was still breathing and walking he had fluid in his lungs and stomach, not to mention how anemic he was.
