I brought it to a little get together last night and everybody was passing it around the poker table. I don't know what it is about this stuff, but everybody who tastes it almost ALWAYS instantly wants to know where they can buy some. They were all commenting that it really made them feel awake, enegized, euphoric, etc.Originally Posted by delta9

It's hard for me to believe this stuff is as incredible as everyone is saying it is, but I may order some anyway just because I like tea.
I also noticed that there are tea bags as well as leaves. Which is the best? Where, also, is the best place to order from?Last edited by siamesedream; 09-25-2005 at 11:40 AM.

Because I've recently given up caffeine for awhile (made my heart race & skip, argh) this post caught my eye. So I went to the organic market and bought some loose leaf Yerba Mate this morning. I brewed some in my coffee maker and I just finished my first cup. Here are my thoughts:
--The color is a deep greenish-brown, almost opaque, like weak coffee It tastes grassy and piney, but definitely not disagreeable. It kind of tastes like green tea, actually, maybe a bit stronger. I brewed it fairly strong, as the original poster suggested. If you like tea, the taste won't be a problem for you.
--Even though it says "naturally caffeinated" on the bag of the Mate I bought, the effects are definitely different than drinking coffee (or normal tea). I feel a less jittery, a more euphoric, cerebral "high" than normal caffeine. Before I drank this stuff, I was in a pretty crappy mood, to be honest. Now I feel great--energetic, but not jittery. If I layed on the couch and vegged out for awhile, I would be relaxed, but if I'm up and about, I would have lots of energy. I think I'll have another cup!
Thanks for introducing the Mate, Citadel! I may have found a new replacement for coffee. All doubts should be dispelled by this thread--try it out!Last edited by trem0lo; 09-26-2005 at 09:13 AM.

Thanks! Ordered some cruz de malta myself as well as the cheapest gourd and the cheapest straw they had. Their yerba mate is priced lower than any of the other place I've found, so thanks a ton for the info!

Hi,
I just want to say that I first read this thread about 4-5 months ago, and decided to try out some Yerba Mate. I have never used any "supplements", other than a multi and whey.
I must say that I think Yerba Mate is AMAZING. I have ordered it from Amigo Foods three or four times, trying a different type each time - so far I have liked them all tastewise, although, I seem to like the ones that contain stems as opposed to those with no stems so far.
I agree whole-heartedly that it is the best fat burner and energizer ever, and believe it or not, I have seen a marked improvement in my workouts and gains (and losses!) since I have been drinking it!
Each evening I mix up a batch in a big pitcher. I work out early (5:30 a.m.) so I drink a glass while I am getting ready, and then take a bottle with me to the gym which I drink while I am working out - it definitely gives me energy. I also take a bottle with me to work which I drink between meals.
I would definetly recommend trying it!
Regards,
Isa

can you get leaves at a health food store like Whole Foods, or just the tea bags?

anyone drink yerba while using a fat burning supplement? Im personally gonna start lipo6 soon and want to get back into the mate. I had laid off lately cos i was using a NO product and knew the 2 would cancel each other.
also - some people have pointed at it some....but how could I make a tea pitcher worth of the mate using straight leaves to bottle and drink..?
I still have near 2kilos and might try to make/bottle it all up while im on fall break from school in the near future..
any suggestions are welcome - PM or post if you like!

I was just reading about this in a health food magazine last night. Seems you can buy it in loose, teabags, capsules, and a RTD bottle. The information they gave seemed pretty impressive as an appetite suppresent and for it's thermogeninc properties. It also talked about it's use as a caffeine replacement for a "pick me up"
I'll gonna have to give this a little more serious look.

Right.... stick with the leaves. They are the cheapest, most effective, and best way to go.

Just got my Yerba Mate, wood cup and bombilla from Amigo foods. Ordered it just before Rita hit so it took 10 days to get to Texas (Considering the circumstance, it was fast shipping). Took my first sip and it was damn strong (Cruz de Malta). Took my second sip and wow....gotta get a travel mug. Use the wood cup at home and travel mug at work. Considering I work in a hospital pharmacy I can just imagine the problems I would have if I took my wood cup and bombilla to work

jdiritto:
I drink my yerba mate cold so I mix up a large pitcher from loose leaves each night as follows:
In a large glass measuring cup (4 cups) I put in about two inches of loose leaves/stems, I then add a bit (1 cup) of tepid water, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then fill up the measuring cup with warmish water to the top. I let it sit about three or four minutes then strain it out into a large pitcher - I do this 3 or 4 times with the same leaves, straining the liquid into the larger pitcher. Once the leaves have lost their strength, I toss them, and keep the pitcher of mate in the fridge.

Woah, crap. I drink mate all the time just because I think it's soothing, I didn't know it had this following here, or all of the health benefits.
My experience is that it's either a love it or hate it thing.

This morning I skipped my coffee and drank Yerba Mate instead. I can tell you that usually I am unable to do anything with my email (let alone any type of work) until I have my coffee. Yerba made me fully alert with just a few sips. BTW, I drank a few cups before bed and although I pissed about 1 liter when I woke, I slept like a log.

do you need to refrigerate the leaf bag after you open it?

I just stumbled upon this thread, and havent read the whole thing, but I am intrigued. Just one question if it hasnt been asked before.
I am pretty much a stimulant junkie. I take in ton of caffiene and ephedra everday. I want to get the yerba mate, but I am wondering if it would be a waste of money. Would I feel that same buzz that I get from ephedra, or is it totally different.

You should feel a lot of energy, very focused, and not jittery. That is the reputation that Yerba Mate has, and that is my own personal experience with it, as echoed on this board by others I have convinced to try it.
If you decide to get some, make sure to let us know and make a post about what you think... I hope this helps.
