I know that in sports like track, or football, speed and explosiveness is pretty much life and death.
But what about in slower paced sports like tennis? Is there any use for "explosiveness?"
What exactly is explosiveness in terms of sports like tennis and volleyball and such?

Racket Speed. Look up the stretch/shortening cycle. Basically, it is that you want there to be little to no pause between bringing the racket back and bringing it forward.
Look at Andy Roddick's Serve, it is shorter than most but it packs more power. That is because he has a shorter pause than most and the potential energy stored in his muscles is not wasted.
