    What is Explosiveness?

I know that in sports like track, or football, speed and explosiveness is pretty much life and death.

But what about in slower paced sports like tennis? Is there any use for "explosiveness?"

What exactly is explosiveness in terms of sports like tennis and volleyball and such?

Id say that a serve in tennis needs explosiveness, or that a spike in volleyball needs explosiveness. Speed to get to the ball in both

I'm not sure how I would explain it. The above poster had good examples.
Smashes in tennis are a good example.

How should developing "explosiveness" help my forehand? IE How will it be different than if I had not train for explosiveness?

Because if you aren't explosive, you may not even get to that ball.

Muscle contractions help you do any movement so if you have stronger muscle contractions you will be able to put more force into the ball therefore increasing your explosive power, I would recommend doing some type of Westside Barbel program, I have a template attatched..

Racket Speed. Look up the stretch/shortening cycle. Basically, it is that you want there to be little to no pause between bringing the racket back and bringing it forward.

Look at Andy Roddick's Serve, it is shorter than most but it packs more power. That is because he has a shorter pause than most and the potential energy stored in his muscles is not wasted.
