competing and $$$
hi-
to everyone who has competed:
how much money did you spend on trainers, posing coaches, nutritionists, tanning stuff, swimsuits and anything else i dont know about that costs money????
i really want to compete, but i know it is very expensive...and that may keep me from it. so, i just want to get an idea about how much money it really is so i can start planning or whatever.
thanks in advance!!

my bf is my trainer, i spent $250 for nutritionist, $50 on a suit, $50 entry fee, $75 on NPC card, plus the supplements and food, i'm not sure how much it cost. i got lucky with posing classes, b/c they were free and the IFBB pro Sherry Smith helped me with my routine for no extra charge.

Suits: $500 (I wore the same ones from my first show in 2005)
NPC Card: $75
Trainer: $2000 (I am now paying over $3000 for my new one)
Supplements: I don't consider this a contest cost because I would have this expense regardless of competing.
Entry fees: $100 total (2 shows)
Videos of shows: $100 total
Make-up/color/bikini bite: $200 (estimated)
Manicure: $40
Shoes: $45
I didn't have airfare/hotel this passed year because I competed close to home. I will do 3 shows next year in which 2 of them require airfare/hotel
You have the option of cutting costs where you choose to-- have a friend do your make-up/hair/nails. Buy a used suit and borrow shoes from another competitor (if you know any)
Ask around these boards for more advice on saving money. Some of these veteran competitors know all the secrets!

You did not specify which, bb'ing/figure, you want to compete in. From my experience, it costs me twice as much to do figure vs bb'ing.
although I always had two suits for bb'ing (one morning-one evening), they were less expensive than figure suits by a long shot.
EVerything eharte said. PLus throw in up to $100 bucks if you get pro spray tanned for the show.
There are lots of ways to cut corners though.
Biggest expense will be your suits. Definitely shop around. I purchased my first 1-piece over the net and it cost about $500! A suit I just purchased locally from www.posingwear.com was less than half that and it totally blows away the first suit!
My first pair of shoes I paid $70. Now i see there's a site that has them for $45.
It takes a little work but shopping around can save you hundreds of dollars in the long run.

This is a very good question. I'm no where near competing(if I decide to do so), and I'm already trying to get an idea of future expenses I'll know what to expect for budgeting purposes. I'm interested in the replies. Push comes to shove, I may only enter the Body for Life competition.
