I've been reading through the forums for quite awhile now and can't seem to figure out if I should have protein shakes and if I am, which ones to have and when to have them. I'm 6'0" 227lbs. I am trying to lose weight and cut myself up but I don't want to lose strength. Any help on if I should have protein shakes is appreciated. If so, which ones would be good for me and when should I be having them?
Thanks in advance for your time...

Protein is essential regardless of what you are trying to accomplish. The best times to take protein shakes [whey] are at breakfast, pre and post-workout. Every other time, you should shoot for real food as your source of protein. Along those lines, here is a list of decent protein choices:
Whey
* PrimaForce Substance
* Ergopharm GF-Pro
* VPX Zero Carb
* Syntrax Nectar
* Dymatize Elite Whey
* MRM Metabolic Whey
* Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey
Blends
* Xtreme Formulation Ultra Peptide
* VPX Micellean
* San Infusion
* Prolab Lean Mass Matrix
* Syntrax Matrix 5.0
There are more options out there, these are just a few of the more 'popular' ones. Good luck
