a little off topic but what skills do you need for defensive tackle? i havent played but my frends and coaches tell me i should play football next year. I'm fast (for a guy like me), weigh at 173 and 5'9 but I look bigger. I'm looking for positions that I'd like to play/or be good at, so what kind of skills do yuou need for tackle or linebacker?

I've played DT for the past 5 or so years (some said I would have been all-state this year if I could have played [knee]).
You need quickness and acceleration. These are two of the most important traits for pass-rushing and getting off blocks.
Next comes functional strength. You can get away with either a really strong upper body, or a really strong lower body. Don't let anyone tell you you NEED both. Your techniques will depend on where your strength is located.
Technique is THE most important trait of a DT. It doesn't matter how physically gifted you are, if you have no technique you are going to suck (look at Brock Lesnar).
You'll also need intelligence and an above-average level of football knowledge. It will come with experience, but you need to very quickly recognize formations and situations, diagnose the play, react and then finish the play.
A lot of people have the perception that DT is the easiest postition to play when it comes to intelligence and such. It is very obvious those people haven't played DT. It can be as complicated as you want it to be. I'm very intelligent when it comes to football [and pretty much everthing else *29 ACT*] so I make it very complex. I run through a mental checklist of at least 15+ things before every play.
Technique and intelligence can hide physical weaknesses. Keep that in mind.
