Pumping up for prejudging?
I was curious - are you allowed to pump up before the prejudging? I mean do the judges prefer to see you pose cold or do they let you pump up for the judging as well? Thanks!

The judges want to see you look your best when you are out there. Thus you want to be pumped up. Usually there is a pump up room w/ weights and bands so that you can get ready to step on stage. Great pics, you are shredded!!!!! Entering a competition?
If you have never watched Pumping Iron, I'd recommend it!!! Great movie w/ the old school BB'ers. It also has some good footage of competitors pumping up backstage.

thanks blahzay. oh i knew the guys pumped up for the stage show but i thought maybe the judges wanted to see you in your unpumped state to access what you really look like. anyway no i'm not ready for comp just yet. i still need to work on quite a few weak points. mainly my lower body.
and by the way, i've seen pumping iron dozens of times! i remember when i first started training waaaaaaaaaay back in 1982, my workout buddies and me would watch it every day! thanks again and keep working hard!!!

Do not pump up your legs. It draws too much blood from the upper body & you loose your pump. Just upper body. Then lie on the floor with your legs up.

Here's a thought...why not sign up for a show? It gives you a set deadline and a fixed goal. Test yourself and view your first show as a competition against yourself. From there, assess your needs, and get to work on them. Just a thought...we will never see ourselves as perfect and there will always be "weak" areas to work on.

This is exactly what I am doing. I am competing in my first comp next year, and I know I got alot of weak points (mainly size) but I dont care. I want to do it not only for the exp. but to help me out in the long run. My roomate who is a bber like me doesn't understand this. He thinks just because I am smaller and probably wont place its not worth it. It is infact worth doing.

I suugest you work hard on bringing up your weak points, compete next year when u turn 40 in Masters comps, but do novice too.
Compared to most novice guys, you have an excellent competitive physique.
BTW, not so many weak points apparent in your pix!

Thanks!! I just couldn't fit my lower legs in the shot..I wasn't hiding them although I feel like doing that most of the time. Yes I'm kicking up my weakpoint training as we speak...perhaps in a year at 40. A nice B'day present to myself. Thanks for the encouragement guys.

If every bodybuilder was perfect and didn't have any weak points then we would all be pros.
Get on a contest prep plan follow it to a T and then when you step on stage regardless of your placing you can say you worked your hardest and thats all that matters. You can't control what other people look like but if you did everything right and don't cheat on your diet then you already won.
Even pros have weak points who cares get on stage asap so you can have the judges tell you what you need to work on. Then take some time off and work on what they tell you to
