Need arthroscopic surgery for wrist injury
I will probably have arthroscopic surgery in the next month or two for what appears to be a torn ligament in my right wrist on an MRI. My ligament in my left wrist also appears to be damaged and may need to be repaired in the future. My hands and wrists are ridden with arthritis as well.
I have engaged in heavy lifting for over forty two years and am certain that this contributed to this degeneration as well as years of training in jujitsu (I have a black belt). It is also a message to trainees who always lift heavy and intensely (which is the way I have always trained) to mix workouts with lighter routines and more frequent layoffs that may have prevented my current situation. Just hope that I can return to intense workouts after rehab. Carl

Good luck with your surgery, Carl. But for what it's worth, I'll be having arthroscopic surgery on my left shoulder on 8/8, and I haven't been lifting heavy for 42yrs . Besides always being an active person and big time DIYer, I've only really been lifting for about 6yrs, and only the last two seriously. I won't even count the few month spurts at different points in my life.
Anyway, I'm not sure that we really know for certain what the real cause is for whatever "breaks down". Either way, I wish you a satisfactory remedy and a speedy recovery .

Yep. Got my second cortisone shots two weeks ago, and it didn't help like the first ones I got last December. Saw an orthopedic doc on Monday of this week....and he scheduled a day for surgery on the spot .

Yes, there may be a number of factors involved (ie, genetics, proclivity for inflammation, etc) BUT there is no doubt that my emphasis of pushing the envelope all these years has contributed to my current injury.
I appreciate the support. Regards, Carl

Thanks, Bodyhard.
I am not looking forward to this surgery but if I don't follow through proactively it is quite possible that the degeneration and loss of mobility and strength of the wrist will only increase over a period of months or years.

Carl I can tell you that for me rolling is much harder on my wrists than lifting - my 2 cents
