A good quality one(not one you see in back of a muscle magazine) has benefits in a therapy environment. I am paralyzed from the upper waist down and i use one that was doctor prescribed to keep my legs from atrophy and stomach muscles. I also know they are used with success in treating other injuries like shoulder, knee, etc. As for a healthy individual, they are useless for the most part, nothing takes the place of good ole fashioned heavy lifting.
