It does not matter what your lifts are, if you wish to compete, go ahead and compete. Your first meet will most likely be the greatest learning experience of your life, and it should be an enjoyable one.

Decent read, even if it does not directly relate to powerlifting:

Wait...i'm confused...you want to compete as a powerlifter or as a fitness?
Wow...great work, just train like everything is weak and they'll go up in no time. Good luck. That 2xbw deadlift is right around the corner, and its a great feeling.
Do you do straight bar or hex/trap bar deadlift?

It is true that in many cases women have to train a little different then men...
one of my training partners is the former coach of the U.S IPF world team for several years..and has coached many female world champions...he is always talking about how to train women different then men although i really dont listen much...
I will ask him some advice and post it here.

LOL..no I just finished a fitness comptition..I am thinking of starting powerlifting training, and just looking for info at this point before I make up my mind...
I am pretty sure that powerlifting will screw me over though to compete in another fitness comp

LC, I love your attitude! Not only did she finish her first fitness comp, but she won the damn thing! She's so modest.
LC, are those numbers that you posted right now or the last time you were on a semi-bulk? Like up to 110lbs .
My first thought is that since you've never trained solely for strength that a 5x5 program would be a good start. I don't think I would have tolerated work with heavy singles very well w/o a foundation of the 5x5 programs.
I don't know if you couldn't compete in PL sometimes and fitness sometimes. Check out the training log on Elitefts of Hannah Johnston. She is a hell of a powerlifter and also competes in figure. I know that figure and fitness are a lot different, but you can see that a crossover can be done. Also check out the log of Julia Ladewski, she's a mom and a powerlifter.
The one thing I would say that you really have going for you is that you're clearly atheletic and coordinated so learning a PL style of lifting shouldn't be too hard for you.
Damn...now you've got me wanting to do my first comp....

Just things I have heard mentioned, endurance, muscle to fat ratio's, recovery...i'm no expert but I know one..infact I will be traveling tomorrow to a meet with a female lifter multi time world champion who holds every record in her division and her coach, so I will ask them some advice.
