Lunges on the Treadmill
Does any body have any tips? How fast? How slow? How deep? I tried them this morning but never really felt like I was doing it correctly.

I don't know, sounds like your setting yourself up for an injury.
What is wrong with plain old walking lunges, no room?

i do lunges on a treadmill sometimes. the highest speed i'll go is 2.3 mph. i like doing them sometimes better than old fashioned ones at the gym because on the treadmill you can do them at an incline. you do have to make extra careful that your form is good though - and don't try to go too fast. just take things very slow and really feel that burn. and if you don't feel comfortable doing them, then don't.

Read it in a magazine. This girl said she would do lunges on a treadmill for 20 minutes. Plain old walking lunges are good for me. I just figured this was something better/more difficult/new.

I can see ChplHillGymGirl's point about the incline bonus. I would feel really selfconcious doing that outside. LOL
Anyway, I quess at my age and declining balance, I would be risking to much to take a chance doing it on a treadmill. I have been known to bust my butt just from trying to drink or look around at someone while on the treadmill! I like to avoid injury at all costs. Gains are so hard to attain and so easy to lose.

I would fall off that treadmill in a second if I did lunges on it, I can barley walk straight on those things LOL, I can be clumsy, I do lunges outside all the time up a hill, then i sprint back to where I started then switch sides so I do two sets of lunges going up hill, sprint down, then two sets of lunges going down hill, then sprint up. Good stuff!

i see your pt about the incline and being real careful. Sounds a little intriguing and different.

I've done lunges on a treadmill also. Like ChplHillGymGirl said watch your form and do them at a low speed. It's a great workout when you wanna switch things up a bit.

There is a workout in an Oxygen magazine with "BLT" (butt & leg training) workouts by Carla Sanchez. They seem to be pretty good for toning. In almost everyone you do "walking lunges" on the treadmill at 15% for 10-15 minutes. You are suppose to go slow enough to get a deep lunge each time. You need to hold on keep your balance at that steep of an incline. You will feel the burn when you are done.

I've done them and they aren't bad- actually they are pretty awesome! I set the incline at 15 and the speed at 1.3 and hold on while I lunge. You can really feel the strech in the hams and glutes. Good stuff!!

When I do the walking lunges on treadmill I reallllllllllllllllllllllllllly slow down the speed and put it on an incline. I normally do this when I'm doing my version of HIIT (sprint then recover then sprint). During my recover I would do the lunges on an incline.
Now, the exercise that I am sure that will make me fall on the treadmill, is running backwards! Imagine backward walking lunges on a treadmill with an incline!

I do them every once in a while to mix things up....at low speed and you have to have good balance or hold on to the sides.....be careful.
