Cung Le's fighting style.
Undefeated Strikeforce fighter Cung Le who recently won his match at the Baroni-Shamrock fight card, listed his style as San Shou, I'm familiar with this style but I've never studied it. I believe it's the first time an MMA fighter has entered in the sport with this style. Can anyone think of anybody else in MMA that practices this style?

Is weight training a passion or sacrifice?
Whatever it is I do it.

I practice Shotokan which is quite a common style in MMA. Lyoto Machida practices that style along with BJJ.

All I know is that guy is beautiful to watch he throws some awesome flashy kicks and they work. You saw that crescent kick he throws crazy. He throws them so effortlessly.

Now that Cung Le has had a few fights it's time for him to take on a fighter on his level now.

Or someone who can actually execute a f*cking takedown.

No, but I have learned to harness my power and electircute people to the tune of the equivalent of 1000 electric eels. That, and I know how to bite.

repped for a Cung-le thread...
seriously though.. he is an amazing striker (with takedowns in effect (which is perfect for mma) so idk how he would do against a top kickboxer) and one of the most enjoyable fighters to watch.. im a huge fan and i would love to see him working a ground game soon (taking someone down and working a sub)...
ps sorry for any spellling or grame (kinda drunk)

Sanshou is Chinese kick boxing. I think you lose elbows and the thai clinch but you can do throws and slams and stuff. One moment, i will check it.
edit: you fight on a platform, not in a ring. You aren't allowed to elbow, knee or headbutt. You are allowed to clinch for 5 seconds before being broken up, you're allowed to throw and sweep. 3 rounds and if you throw/knock the guy off the platform 3 times, you win. Otherwise it's by ko/tko or rounds won. Cung Le is the only guy i know to use it. But i think anyone that does do San Shou in an mma fight would still also need to really lean Muay Thai and something like wrestling or bjj to be effective against a well rounded fighter.

Cung Le (like many other Le's such as Bruce Lee or Jet Li) is Chinese and is big into his martial roots.
In China, the fundamental art is Kung Fu. San Shou pretty much developed as a practical Kung Fu style involving the sparring of Shaolin with the mean throwing and take down methods of Shuai Jiao or Chinese Fast Wrestling. Almost like the old Taiji push hands or Tui Shou methods sped up real fast for ring fighting.
