I do alot of work on the smith machine because I don't always have a spotter and I can tell you right now that the 'dangers' are terribly overrated. I know of tons of advanced lifters that use it without any problems. Just use a little common sense when using it. The biggest problem is that it's a set plane of motion like any other machine. If you're a powerlifter I wouldn't use it, but if you're a bodybuilder and you use it with some common sense in conjunction with free weights I don't think there is any problem. I've seen great results too, so don't listen to those uBeR HaRdCoRe "bodybuilders" (sarcasm) on here that tell you it's a waste of time.

i think the disadvantages are that you dont use your stabiliser muscles as much because you have a fixed range of motion.

But i think its best to vary between smith and free-weight squats.

Same as before, I don't like Smith machines because they take out the natural groove and stabilizing muscles don't get integrated as much. I would never do squats on a smith machine, but if you feel you must for anything else it's up to you.

You use the smith machine because you are a big fat pussy. Machines are for sissies, you have no real strength. Fatty.

Gotta love people that live fakes lives over the internet so that they can call people names that they'd never in their lives call them in real life! Oh well, good luck getting banned, e-thug.
