    Stretchmarks (from pregnancy)

Right now I'm just starting to work out more and more in hopes of getting very fit and maybe one day doing something like bodybuilding. One thing I'm pretty self conscious about with my body is my stretchmarks from having my son (9months old). I've seen pictures of fitness and physique models during competition, and the article or site mentions that they have children. One thing I never see is that these women have stretch marks.

So, is there room for a stretch mark laden body when it comes to these kind of competitions? When I end up getting tan (mystique tanning, my butt won't step within feet of a tanning bed), will that help reduce the look?

I thought that this would be the best forum for this question, you know - it being specific to us ladies and all

    Thanks!

I've got the stretch marks! Look close at the avatar and you can see them.

I was told that most of the tanning cremes the competitors use, cover them up on stage. I don't compete until April, so I don't know yet.

    Good luck-go for your goals!

A tan should help to cover it up a bit, but it probably won't remove them in the longer term.

Hey I got the thing. Retin-A. Perscription only. It is used to treat acne and age spots, but they found out it works wonders on stretch marks. I have been using it since last year and my stretch marks have faded considerably. A dermotologist is who you will want to talk to. Also, there is laser treatments now that work very well.

With men and women as large as I am, when we reach our goals the best bet will be a good old fashioned tummy tuck.

Does it work on loose skin with stretch marks?

Stretch marks around my belly button, and a few on the sides of my breasts, are a shade lighter than my skin tone, so I'm hoping whatever ladies are required to wear on stage to cover the skin, will conceal those if I ever enter a figure competition. However, those under my midriff are darker, which will take careful planning. I hope there are lots of suggestions.

that sounds a lot like me. The ones around my belly button are lighter, but I have ones on my sides that are dark/kind of purple-ish. I'm sure they'll get better since I'm still only 9 months post partum, but still! The worst though is that I have them down my thighs even on down to my calves. Those aren't really discolored though, they just look...hmmm I think I'd say they look "bumpy"?

Hey Phitknis, for the marks on your legs, are you sure those aren't varicose veins? I think that's the name for them. I'm not sure if stretch marks have a "bumpy" appearance. Sometimes it can take a while for the body to adjust after giving birth, so I'd give it a year to see how things turn out. Babies are so innocent and cute, but boy do they leave their mark after entering the world. lol

    Arrow Competing with stretch marks

I have many stretch marks from my three girls, covering my lowers abs, thighs and butt. I didn't do a very heavy coat of tanning for my comp, but it still lessoned them quite a bit. One thing I can tell you, as I was very worried about mine is that EVERY girl at the figure competition I went to had them in various places so now it doesn't bother me a bit. Check out my pics closely and you may see a few of mine.

Yep, it should be fine to use as a replacement for your regular soap. The fresher stretchmarks should go first. Let me know how it works out for you should you try it!

Another one with stretch marks here (what a great support group!) NOt on my tummy but my butt and thighs. Plus wrinkly skin. I knew I wasn't alone, but it is nice to have that reaffirmed.

Hey, I think she could really benefit from Java Lather, but unfortunately we've already picked testers for this. However, it is now available in the superstore for $4.25 a bar.

    Kelo-Cote for Stretchmarks & Scars

I have had two kids and was fortunate enough not to get any stretchmarks on my belly, but the thighs are another story. I've found tanning has helped reduce how they look but they aren't bad enough for medical treatment.

I see a great dermotologist and he did suggest a new product called Kelo-Cote for a scar I have. He also told me there are new laser treatments that dramatically improve stretchmarks.

The plastic surgeon (who removed a mole from my cheek) also recommends this for his surgery patients and swears by it.

    Hope this helps.
