Cottage Cheese
I am looking to clean bulk and lean out at the same time. No timeline, just how I wanna keep building muscle and losing fat all at the same time.
I have been eating a lot of cottage cheese in between meals and was wondering if this is ok to keep things clean. I worry about the sodium content as the stuff I buy has 512mg and 178mg of potassium per 120g serving. I usually eat close to 1 KG a day of the stuff. FYI, it has 16g of protein, 1.2g of fat, and 6 grams of carbs per 120g serving.
I know yogurt is bad for clean bulking as it is fatty and high in simple carbs.
How does cottage cheese fair otherwise?

Sorry bro but that has to be THE most contradictory statement I have ever heard. "Clean Bulk" itself is controversial, but becoming more widespread. But lean out simultaneously???
In terms of the question about sodium - depending on where you are you should be able to get low/no sodium CC. I actually think it tastes better (I had it overseas as you do not get it here).

yea i dont think you lean out but you can try to not gain as much fat as you would if you did a dirty bulk. Clean bulk is the way to go, lots of oats and peanut butter. imo i dont like cottage cheese but it think i am going to start eating it when i cut

Good point, but maybe I used the wrong words. I have been making gains for long periods of time.. like 3-6 months where I will gain 5 pounds and lose fat at the same time. I don't have a bodyfat tester, but my girlfriend and myself notice quite a change (Maybe thats my ignorance there). I was 210 in June, I am now 215 and I am noticably leaner - the only thing I have changed is increasing the clean foods I eat.
I have never been fat, as I started lifitng a few years ago when I weighed 130. I only eat foods I deem healthy, no alcohol, no junk food, nothing.. I am quite rigorous.
For example, more CC and more fish daily. Cutting out white rice and white bread completely and going with wheat bread and wheat rice, plus having more of it.
I am just eating more of the foods I normally eat.
back to the original question though, is cottage cheese negative at all for me?

I notice you are from South Africa. I was raised there and still buy like to eat a few things I cannot get here. One of which is ProNutro. There are a ton of calories and carbs in it, but I was wondering are the carbs in ProNutro all simple carbs? or is there some good stuff in it?

well normal ProNutro is good for you. It's the flavored ones which aren't good, full of sugar and other crap. The WholeWheat ProNutro is the best, and it actually tastes quite awesome too.

yogurt is not bad for you on a clean bulk. i dont know what kind you eat but i eat nonfat, plain yogurt. there isnt sugar added to it, yes the carb count is almost 20 per cup and 15g of sugar or so but all that is is lactose, which is the same sugar found in milk and cottage cheese. plus because there is bacteria in the yogurt and it ferments for a while some of the lactose is turned into lactic acid. yogurt is great for you because it contains a multitude of bacteria cultures which aide in digestion and keeping your intestines clean.

I read in Franco Columbo's book that yogurt added to a think layer of fat on the body. He said a few scoops a week is more than enough in regards to Acidiphelous and bacteria etc...

It's almost impossibile to build muscle and lose fat at the same time...naturally.
If you are concerned about the sodium in cottage cheese you can try to buy low sodium cottage cheese. Friendships's 1% No Salt Added cottage cheese is great if you can find it. It has 45mg of sodium per 1/2 cup.

Well, I am not sure about the build muscle lose fat thing. I haven't had much fat to lose, but I am growing and I am "seeming" leaner and leaner.
My question is within your question... is the sodium in cottage cheese, normal 1% going to cause negative affects. I mean your body needs sodium, and enough water should flush it, however, could it still be a bit much?

Naw, the sodium won't kill you as long as you don't have hypertension issues.
The only time you really have to worry about sodium is precontest.
Anyway, most of us risk sodium defficiencies due to the enormous amounts of water we take in.

thanks man... so I can eat mass amounts of cottage cheese without issue!! I am no bodybuilder, more of an olympic/power lifter - thats all I really do at least. I just like to stay healthy and eat right, while looking good hehe
Anything else like cottage cheese you could recommend?

say you start off at 200lbs and 10% bf and you gain 10 lbs of muscle and stay at 10 % bf then yes you will look leaner because your fat to muscle ratio has decreased

right... good way of putting it, but I must say with all the sports and submission wrestling I am doing, while I still am lifting strong 4-5 days a week, I must be slowly losing bodyfat.
I would say I am at 10% maybe 12% who knows. Would like to be sub 10 one day, but I guess then I will have to actually lose weight and muscle to cut
