    Best Alcoholic Drink?

What is the best drink to have at a bar? Basically what drink has lowest calories and lowest carbs? I heard that Gin and Tonics are good, as well as Vodka redbulls. Any other suggestions? I definitely stay away from beer.

Exclamation IMO "best" is a poor choice of words . . .

Asking what the "least damaging" alcoholic drink is more like it.

I recommend faking it w/ a "Virgin Mary" which is a Bloody Mary w/o the vodka. No one will know the difference & it tastes just as good.

But if u MUST have alcohol something like a real Bloody Mary or Gin & SF tonic water, tall drinks where the booze is diluted, sipped slowly, r prolly the least damaging. Stay away from drinks w/ a lot of added stuff, esp. sugary things, keep it simple.

Another low-alcohol option, which will make u look quite sophisticated is a Campari & Soda w/ a twist. Campari is an aperatif that has lower alcohol content than normal liquor & a cool-looking scarlet color. That was the last thing I used 2 drink b4 I gave up hard liquor completely.
    Best Regards,

    Ed

To the pessimist, the glass is half empty . . .
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

I could be wrong but a friend said there is a type of rum that is made with no calories, so if you mix it with say diet coke there would be zero calories.

**edit** its zero carbs and zero sugar in bacqrdi and coke zero

Measure out 1 to 2 shots of vodka and mix with flavored sparkling water (I usually buy Poland Spring). You can get lime, lemon, orange, etc flavored sparkling water. You can garnish/squeeze in a lime, lemon, or orange as well. Keeps you hydrated because of the water plus zero carbs (minimal if you squeeze in an orange). Clear liquors are the best too for minimizing a hangover...

If you want to avoid calories and have a few drinks just take shots. Each shot will have a few less calories than a beer. Whatever you do though, dont get chick drinks. Those will have tons of sugar and sweetner in them, absolutely filled with calories. Someone mentioned rum and diet coke, probably the "healthiest" drink you could sip on.

Whenever I have a couple of drinks, I try to get Bacardi and Diet Coke as it has 0 carbs, or I take shots and drink water in between.

Below is a clip from an article by the University of Rochester. The article is an interesting read about drinking and its effects on the body. It can be found here: http://www.rochester.edu/uhs/healtht...ricvalues.html

    CALORIE REDUCING TIPS
-Try alternating alcoholic drinks with low calorie non-alcoholic drinks or water.
-Ask for low calorie / diet mixers where possible.
-Make your wine into a spritzer (a longer drink), or your lager into a shandy - both have fewer calories.
-Substitute your "alcopop" for a shot of spirit and a low calorie mixer - about a quarter of the calories!
-Plan your alcohol into your daily calorie quota so you can enjoy a glass or two. If you know you will be drinking during the weekend, try to save some calories each day in advance, so you can eat normally before you go out.
-Don't be tempted to skip meals to allow for drinks, as alcohol won't satisfy your hunger. In fact, alcohol lowers blood sugar levels (it prevents sugar that is normally stored in the liver, as glycogen, from breaking down). A drop in blood sugar levels sends signals to the brain you are hungry. With alcohol in your system, willpower can go out of the window and the snack attacks kick in. Eating a proper meal before you go out will line your stomach and slow the rate at which alcohol absorbs into your bloodstream, keeping you in control of how much you eat and drink.

Yeah, that's not possible. Alcohol has calories itself, there are no calorie-free alcohol drinks.
The best solution is a straight shot of vodka with a 0 Calories chaser. Limits the amount of crap going in.

Actually, we just take straight shots and chase it with something. But it's definitely not a "sipping" drink.

I actually enjoy the taste of sipping a good vodka straight up out of the freezer.

A nice, aged single malt Scotch though is my weakness.

Yes, but we're talking Kamchatka here, not Grey Goose.

Give me Scotch or Irish whiskey any day. I don't really care for bourbon or American whiskey in general, but they know what they're doing across the pond.

If you're main goal is to get hamboed consuming as little calories as possible the answer is bacardi 151.

As far as just casual drinking I'd stick to diet coke with crown royal.

It may sound a little crazy but, I actually take out the little Crystal Light on the go packets and ask for vodka on the rocks and mix some of the powder in. It tastes pretty good and gets the job done!

good idea man... i forgot all about that drink. I will add it to my bar, and actually it wouldnt be any less calories than 80 proof.... less liquid perhaps. I used to date a girl with access to pure ethanol...yeah...her and her friends would bring it to parties
