A Quality Bar

i've got a pos 7ft bar that came with a 300 lb tsa weight set a family member bought me 3 years ago. It's thinner then a standard bar and only weighs 35 lbs. However it has lastedd me these 3 years and seen alot of pr's and some heavy lifts (430 lb deads , 495 lb rack pulls , 375 lb squats) im suprised it hasnt snapped yet. I'd like to buy a new quality bar on that can see me thrrough heavier lifts as i progress and will last . i have limited funds $100-$150 but my parents said they would help me purchase a better quality one. suggestions??

they have alot of other quality bars priced cheaper than ive seen around. If your parents are willing to help you out with say 100$ plus your 150$ you can get a texas power bar that will last longer than you will. BTW i love my power bar, best purchase ever

I actually live like 30 minutes from where texas power bars are made (Capps Welding in the Dallas area). It's 165 dollars for pick up. Newbtime talked to me about picking it up for him and shipping it for way cheaper. Supposedly it's 20 dollars to ship but when Buddy Capps ships it, he makes a little bit of money on it.

I don't expect you to trust me with that, but a few members here know me well enough. If any of you guys want to work out a deal lemme know (I won't take a cut, and you will save a lot of money).

The new tpbs come with protective coating. If you order from EFS you might get the old ones without the coating, WWfitness just sends the order to buddy capps, so you will probably get a new one but it will take awhile.

That caps texas barbell is a good bar and good price. Another great deal is the jesup bar which I picked up because I used to live by there and love it.

i have a york 32113
it is a 1000 lbs tested bar, really thin and nicely manufatured scratch, I only had one better bar in hand and it was in a powerlifting competition, Ivanko but dont know the model,

the york 32113 bar is a 30mm diameter i think and it fit very well in anybodys growth hand

It just fit his price range. IMO texas power bar is the best for the money. I also use troy bars at the gym I go to. They are good for bench and squat but for DL they are no fun.

I hear you on the price range but it is so well worth it to save up a bit to get a MUCH better bar. He's also got a cheap bar that he wants to upgrade. Don't think I've tried out a Troy bar before. Nothing beats a okie deadlift bar for DL. That bar is freaking awesome.

I order all my gym equip from jesup and couldn't be happier, I was looking into that 1500lb oly bar they have for sale, as I'm in the same boat as the OP.

Your parents aren't going to go for it, and I don't blame them. But if they did, I'd prefer that you let me transact my deal with newbtime first. I know him, so it's way less awkward. I've done deals with him before, but only regarding stuff less than 20 dollars, and he's done a lot of deals with other people.

Check Craigslist and Play It Again Sports, you might find a good bargain there.

I would also recommend Craigslist - you may be able to find a used commercial bar for under $100. Just make sure that it is not bent and make sure that it does not have threaded collars (if there is a bolt in the end of the collar then it is a cheap bar).

the jesup bar is a good bar, but it's noticeably thicker than a normal bar.

Just in case you didn't think about it, are the weights and bar you already have "olympic" (2" hole) or "standard" (1"). Most of those sets come with the standard size stuff (and you mentioned it was a thinner bar already) which obviously won't fit on an olympic bar, if it's olympic stuff you're good to go with an expensive bar.

Theres a reason texas power bars are so popular.... they are the best value.


The new ones have a treated shaft so the knurling won't get ruined by rust....... I would just go with a texas power bar



Weightlifters warehouse is a distributor that puts in your info to capp, and you get mailed the bar directly from capp, so you are guarenteed to get a new model bar that hasnt been collecting dust and rust in a warehouse for years.


I would only order from a site that is a distributor of capp barbells.... you don't know what youre going to get really.... the new treated bars are much better.

Never had an issue with it benching nor anyone else I've heard of using one. Never really noticed the difference in thickness compared to other bars I've used either while benching. It's a very stiff bar so it's not ideal for deadlifting but most bars made for squat and bench aren't. But really anything that makes it harder in training will make meet day easier.

I've got nothing against the cap texas bar either though. It's a great all around bar.
