There are exceptions...but most women who frequent clubs and bars will smoke, party often, and drink(at least socially). You might have more success if you frequent areas which attract more conservative women, where smoking and drinking are not allowed. A few examples could be artistic or cultural events such as theatre productions, poetry readings, etc. Or take up an interesting hobby in small groups, such as salsa dancing, painting, bike riding, or running. Also, a great way to help others, and possibly meet someone special, is to volunteer. Just make sure it's some place that actually appeals to you, where you can make a difference.

As for finding a girl you enjoy spending time with, get a hobby that you do with a group of people that doesn't involve a club or bar, and takes place in person. Oh, and many churches have singles groups.

After bartending my way through college, I can say with confidence that the bar and clubs are quite possibly the worse way to meet other singles. The regulars that make it a habit to go out almost nightly tend to be lacking something huge in their personal, academic or professional lives (and boy, did I hear about it...). And when they do meet someone, they fall hard, then something dramatic always seemed to happen (and again, I'd hear about it, usually repeatedly during the night as well). Maybe it seems like I'm stereotyping, but after bartending right in the middle of two large universities for 4 years, I saw the same thing happen over and over again. Weekend alcoholics and party girls (and boys) are something I'd never want to deal with.

Meeting in small social settings (like a friends bbq) where music isn't killing your ears and the goal of the night is fun as opposed to getting laid seem to be the route to go.

Well actually, I am dating a guy I met at the gym. I would see him there regularly &, for about a month, we would just make random conversation. He said he was first attracted to me b/c of my smile & my legs. But, after seeing me there a few more times, he was intrigued b/c I just kept to myself, seemed pretty serious about my workouts, & dressed relatively conservative. I don't drink or smoke. I don't have a myspace page. There are plenty of ladies at my gym who are more attractive than me & in much better shape than me, but it turns out he likes nice girls who have their stuff together. So, I know lots of people on bb.com disagree with 'looking' for dates at the gym, but I think it would be a good place to meet a nice girl--she will most likely be fitness minded & health conscious!

I met mine at work. There had to be two people on a shift at one time so I had plenty of time to get to know him, first as an acquaintance/co-worker, then as a friend, then we started dating.
