300 pushups a day for MASS

ive never really done pushups much only when i was away from the gym for a while, but my friend told me that if i do 300 pushups about 6 sets of 50 everyday, i would gain a good amount of size.

Will this work considering i will be eating enough calories and protein?

Has anyone gained mass from doing pushups?

at first you may notice some muscle if you dont work out , but i wouldnt suggest doin that everyday like your friend said because the muscle would not have time to heal expecially if your working chest in the gym hard you could do some on chest day if you wanted to but imo thats about the only day you would want to do some

It depends on your body, but more than likely you would over-train your chest, especially if you train your chest hard in the gym. You would likely not gain much increase in overall chest size. I usually do a set of pushups before I work the chest for a warmup.

I did hundreds of P-ups in sets of 50 for about a year and a half and I got NO mass.

I was flat chested...but I could knock out 200 pushups in about 2 minutes.

That's not true, but I also wouldnt suggest 300 pushups a day. Maybe one set a day, about 2-5 reps short to failure couldnt hurt, or it could.........

yes its true unless u can only perform less then 10 pushups.
but then doin them everday would be pointless.
and by the time u got to be able to do 20+ pushups u wouldnt have gained any size.

and after 15+ reps its just muscular endurance u wont gain any size or strength

what a sack of ****. Yeah you will gain more strength for doing more then 20 push ups. I would say most people would agree to this. 20? C'mon man. I know 300 is a lot, but you can still gain strength for doing more then 20

Firstly not everyday, secondly, you need more resistance than just your body weight. Pushups are ok, but for mass you want a chest movement that you can only do about 6-10 reps with.

Agreed. I used to do 200-250 pushups per day and was growing pretty well. At the time I was benching around 250 @ 145. I also could do about 65-70 pushups at a time. But chest was really the only muscle I focused on then.

Push ups and bench aren't going to add much weight to you at all. It's the big leg lifts (squat and dl) that tend to add a lot of weight.

just letting you guys know. i watched a popular show in japan, and it had a guy try to do 10,000 pushups in one week. what was kinda funny was that they gave him a buck for everypush up but he had to do it on his free time! he had to work so he had some all nighters! well anwyays he only got to do 6 thousand something but my point is! the guys chest got much bigger!! they showed before and after pics and it was crazy!! now im not sure if this is swolleness or if it will go away but he was much more beefed up! all his work out buddys were really shocked! his shoulders and chest were much much bigger!....so maybe its unhealthy or it will go away but he gained much much mass!! and in one week!peace.

Well it all depends on the individual. But I know various members of my family who have very big chests, and all they do is pushups, and weighted pushups. And for me personally, weighted pushups did more for my chest in six months than years of flat benching ever did.

I did pushups throughout college - 200 3x per week.

Great exercise for chest, tris and front delts.

I love pushups. Don't do as many now, but every two weeks I do Diamond Pushups to change up for Tris.

what if you were doing like 4 sets of 10 or like 2 sets of 10-20 just to keep protein synthesis from happening at an increased rate in the chest.

Well it all depends on the individual. But I know various members of my family who have very big chests, and all they do is pushups, and weighted pushups. And for me personally, weighted pushups did more for my chest in six months than years of flat benching ever did.
    Amen.

When I was in Italy, I had no access to a gym. I did 2x35 triangle, 2x35 regular, and 2x35 wide push-ups every day. My chest grew better in 3 months of that routine than the 2 years of benching before that. I wish I could find the pic I have of that.

    You beat me to it.

I used to (have to) do 200 push-ups per day when I wrestled. My chest DID get bigger even though I was losing weight and not working out with weights.

Whoa Whoa Whoa! Calm down...deep breathes! I made that comment because someone said about Bruce Lee having a big chest or something, then someone said he only weighed 135 and that that is evidence that pushups do not add mass. And yes, I read every post up to the point where I posted (which is where you apparently failed).

Scientifically speaking, no. But the only way to find out in a situation like this is to try it.
