frenchy19 is on a distinguished road. (+10)
Is it easier to regain muscles mass??

I only ask because i've neglected the gym for almost 6 months and im probably back to my natural physique right now. I'm now returning to a full time workout regime and just wondered whether i should expect better gains than when i first started.

Also how does the body change through age in this way??? Will it be easier/harder now that im 20 rather than 18???

Just some general wonderings, i appreciate any feedback.

Well I have heard "muscle memory" being tossed around quite a bit. And from what I understand is once you lift and reach a certain point and then let yourself go it is much easier to regain what you have lost than if you never touched a weight in the first place. Now , whether that is from your muscles actually having a "memory" or from YOU actually knowing the lifts, what works , what it takes etc etc etc, I could not distinguish between. I would have to imagine that it is a mix of both.

I was out of weightlifting for 3 years due to both my scaphoids (wrist bones) being broke and in the past 6 months i have gained more than I ever have in any 6 months of lifting, EVER.

In conclusion I think all in all you will get back to where you were in much less time time than it took you in the first place.

Also to respond more directly to the age thing, weightlifting is one of those things that actually gets better as you age to certain point. Your whole 20's-30's-40's should be prime time to pack on some mass. I am 23 and it is much easier to gain than when I was 16-17.

I have had many large breaks (slack offs) for around 6 months and regain around 80% within weeks. It's the last 20% that I found takes more time.
