HIIT vs ordinary cardio question
I read that according to the Univesity of Quebec HIIT cardio burns 9 times more fat than ordinary cardio workouts....
This would mean that with only 2 weeks of HIIT I could loose the same amount of fat as an ordinary cardio practicioner would loose in 5 months...
Is this true?

Benefits Of HIIT
A study at Laval University in Quebec, Canada found that HIIT cardio helped trainees loose nine (yes, 9!) times more fat than those who trained the traditional way (moderate speed for 20-60 minutes).

Another great informative post by the 16 year old.
To the top: There are a number of factors to consider. If you do 20 minutes of HIIT and 20 minutes of LISS, of course the HIIT will burn more. If you do 2 hours of LISS and 20 minutes of HIIT, the LISS will burn more. See my point? It's all a matter of duration.

yeah... lets say I did 40mins-1 hour moderate speed cardio for the last 2 months....
If I had done 15-20 min HIIT for 2 weeks instead, I would have been where I am now a month and a half ago in terms of fat loss... right?

Well, not really. 45 minutes to 1 hour of cardio probably burns the same as 20 minute HIIT. If you you're talking about doing 45 min - 1 hour of HIIT then that's different. You'll burn more muscle than anything else and be on your way to being "skinny fat".

well as far as Im concerned, HIIT programs consist in a 15-20 min session 2-3 days a week.
I think that what people in the Univ of Quebec mean is that one 15 min HIIT sessions burn 9 times more calories than one 60 min cardio session. This sounds ilogical... but I wanted to make sure..

You can lose muscle with HIT (real intense session)
With low intensity you manage to keep the muscle. However, I think many really don't understand the term low intensity. You should still be able to get your heart going good, lose fat and preserve muscle. Diet is the key though to losing fat.

Too much low intensity can be catabolic though. The thing with HIIT is that you can't keep track of calories burnt AFTERWARDS. You won't burn any calories after a session of low intensity steady state. It's low intensity, it won't do squat crap for your EPOC. Now if you do high intensity steady state, that has been proven to have the same effects as HIIT. Of course the sessions have to be a little longer, but LISS is just too easy. You'll be better off with HIIT, Tabatas, or HISS (high intensity steady state).
