First off, I'm usually one of only a few women in my gym who actually touch the free weights and even then I've never seen a woman bench press more than the bar.
Last Thursday, I was doing my leg workout when this guy came up to me, said he's noticed me in the gym a lot and loves to see me lifting heavy and commented on my good form. (I was doing squats.) He then asked me why do I lift so heavy. Kind of confused I said what? He then said are you training to become a fire fighter? I said oh no and explained I started working out to get in shape for my wedding, remembered how much I loved lifting in high school and kind of got addicted along the way. I mentioned maybe one day I will do a figure competition. He smiled really big and introduced himself as the General Manager of the gym. He went on to say he wishes more women, including his wife, would lift heavy. Pretty cool I thought.

Personally, I love women who are strong, both physically, mentall, emotionally, etc. Especially physically. It can be a turn on. I personally havent met a woman who is as strong as me, but if I am working out on say pulldowns and a woman sits down and usses the same weight as i do, I am going to be like hell yes!!! Lets finish these sets! I mean we do it with guys right? I mean when a guy lifts more than we normally see him do, dont we congratulate him? If a woman hangs with me weight wise, I am totally going to give her the respect and accolades she deserves!
If women "should be treated like queens" as a general rule, should men also be treated as kings?
Isn't it obvious why men are intimidated by strong women? It's because men want to have sex with women. Heterosexual men refuse to entertain the thought of having sex with equals (i.e. other males). The nature of sex is that it puts males in the dominant position. Women are subservient. When a situation arises that reverses the balance of power, men feel insecure. Women feel insecure 95% of the time because women are in the inferior position 95% of the time. The other 5%, the exact same scenario applies to males.
The very definition of a "femininity" is absolutely, positively, irrevocably correlated with weakness. "Female strength" is an oxymoron; women can only become stronger by adopting male characteristics. e.g. female athletes are flat chested, because tits get in the way of things.

It's a guy's natural instinct to try to get into a woman's pants in any way that he can. And yes, the vast majority of men perceive women to be extraordinarily weak on a subconscious level. This is revealed by their tame behavior towards women in stark contrast to their behavior towards members of their own sex.
The chivalrous man considers all women to be practically helpless.
The man who respects women, is the one who would not hesitate to hit a woman.
Men refuse to hit women because they are incapable of seeing them as a threat. This is the worst possible insult that one can receive. To have one's own opponents refuse to even acknowledge him.
Every man considers the most pathetic and weak male adversary to be a far greater threat than the strongest woman. This is demonstrated by the fact that Fathers will readily beat their own sons, but won't lay a hand on a woman. The message is crystal clear: You, woman, are weaker and more helpless than a young boy.
I, for one, would not mind seeing more "strong women" around. For this reason, I strongly encourage widespread testosterone administration to females. Thanks to the miracles of modern chemistry, we now have the power to determine our own fate over biology.

I think this generally applies to lifting...yes, women don't push themselves nearly as much as men; mostly because of the fact that they aren't informed. However, I think most ladies in the gym push themselves more than guys when it comes to cardio. Most men don't do it, while most women swear to it.

Obvious...because of sex...I mean really. Some men prefer a dominate women.
WOW way off! Women do not feel insecure 95% of the time! I'm a woman, I should know. I actually happen to be a woman working in a mostly man's field with a typical man's degree. aka I'm a civil engineer working for a heavy civil construction company (road and bridges). Times are changing and the work force is diversifying but still mostly men. I would hate my life if I was 95% insecure because of all the big strong, smelly, burly men that work around me. And PS, I love my life and I enjoy every second of it basking in my security.

WOW, you've got some bs mixed in with some good points. First off, you are saying my soon to be husband, father and every male friend I've had don't respect me because they never laid a hand on me? No way. That's so far off from being right. They don't hit me because they respect me, they know they are know how much they could hurt me and sustain. My father, brothers and fiance are all gentlemen, they open doors for my mom, myself and any other person (male or female that is around). Is this because they think we cannot do it on our own? No, it's because they have manners and they are not just looking out for them but for others.
Total BS to "every man considers the most pathetic and weak male adversary to be a far greater threat than the strongest woman." Exactly. If you are following your program you will be using the weight that is right. It won't matter what someone next to you picks up, whether that be a boy or a girl.
So...I say to a friend that I can't eat what she eats because "I eat funny". So she says "what does funny taste like?". So I say "Like rubber chicken".

I do not think that any straight men prefer women who are dominant all of the time. I do think there are straight men who prefer women to be dominant some of the time. It's a power game. People get tired of playing the same roles constantly, so they occasionally try to reverse their roles in controlled situations. That's what sexual fetishes are all about. Boys grow up beating girls at absolutely everything; it gets old after a while. So, to keep life interesting, men play games in which their roles are reversed and women are put into the dominant position. Of course, it's nothing more than an act, and every male knows the true score. The problem is, females often don't. They wind up mistaking the power game for the power reality, and chaos ensues. The power reality hasn't changed in 5,000 years. The fact of the matter is that women are as helpless as ever. Even in today's feminist, PC society, a man has absolutely nothing to fear from any woman. Insofar as any man is threatened by women, the nature of the threat lies in the patriarchal system which protects and cares for them. That is to say, the man is actually threatened by other men acting on *behalf* of the woman, be they her father, husband, a cop, or other male enforcer.
Women require a male-constructed and male-enforced system in order to have any semblance of power. They have no power inherent to themselves. In this respect, women haven't changed at all since the beginning of history. It is the men who have changed.

I'm glad you want to see more strong women around...that's one thing we agree on.
Your male friends love and cherish you, I'm sure, but you are not worthy of their respect for reasons which I'll elaborate on. The relationship you share with them is comparable to that between a parent and child, or even a master and his loyal servant.
It's not the fact that they don't hit you, in practice, which indicates their lack of respect; it's their objection to using force under any circumstances. To illustrate the point, consider the fact that most men don't make a common habit of hitting other men and habitually getting into fights. Yet, by the same token, most men reserve the right to use force against other men, if and when it is deemed necessary. So, there is a double standard in place.
The very thing which compels men to renounce all forms of physical coercion against women is their perception that no female can truly pose a threat to them. It is the same principle which causes both men and women to renounce violence against children. Most people don't want to be viewed as aggressors or bullies. White Men have an innate desire for fairness or justice, a respect for fair fights, even for opponents.
Males need to feel threatened in some way (physical, emotional, or intellectual) before they are capable of giving respect. The degree of respect given is directly proportional to the intensity of the threat.
It is not possible for males to respect an individual whom they perceive to be incapable of threatening them. Close analysis reveals this law to be universally true, with no exceptions.
The typical male is threatened by many other males but very few, if any, females. In the female domain, he considers himself King. And every heterosexual male shares this view independently. Hence, the popular male fantasy of being the lone occupant of a territory populated exclusively by females. The fantasy, to the male, represents unlimited sexual opportunity together with a complete elimination of the threat posed by competing males. Females, in general, are regarded as a prize - a prize which comes with money and power.

No, I think men like sex because it gets them off. However, the natural consequence of sexual intercourse is to "put women in their place".
Sex is not an egalitarian activity. If it was, women wouldn't be so adverse to it. Conversely, if sex, for men, required taking it rather than giving it, they wouldn't be nearly as enthusiastic about it as they presently are. Nobody wants to be on the receing end, if they can avoid it. It's an issue of power, not sexual intercourse or gender, per se.
The fundamental problem facing women is that they lack an independent identity. Female identity is derived wholesale from cultural influences - the culture dictates what the female role is and "designs" her from the ground up. The "culture", of course, is male-dominated. Thus, males are responsible for creating the female identity. They will even go so far as to create "females" from scratch by imposing female roles onto "weak" males, against their will. This is manifested in the practice of male castration, widely practiced in the ancient world, as well as the practice of turning men into sexual slaves or "bitches" in all-male environments (i.e. prison). There's no better evidence to demonstrate that female identity is an artificial creation of society, and that females necessarily take a subservient role.
Humans are constantly ranking themselves against others; keeping score, so to speak. Males rank themselves against other males by their perceived ability to outmatch them in some test (physical or intellectual). Females rank themselves against others of their gender by their relative attractiveness, as determined by the male-dominated culture. As such, the female identity cannot exist without male validation.
In short, women derive their entire self-worth from "competing" for the attention of the greatest number of males. The greatest achievement a woman is capable of, and the one which all women strive for, is the ability to provide every male she encounters with a firm erection.

Wow, Al Shades, I think you are just a troll. That or your theories are so out there, who would know where to begin?
Boys grow up beating girls at absolutely everything; it gets old after a while.
What fantasy world do you live in? Until their teens, boys and girls are physically comparable, and boys start growing bigger and taller when puberty hits. I grew up with all boys. My neighbours and my cousins were boys, and none of them could kick my ass. In fact, I routinely beat my cousin in wrestling matches until he hit 16, suddenly grew way taller than me and much bigger. And this is only physicality we're talking about! Girls are outstripping boys academically in record numbers, male academic performance is becoming a crisis of sorts that needs to be addressed, so this blanket statement you've made about boys growing up beating girls "at absolutely everything", is completely false.
You seem to have this warped view of the world, as if everything revolves around men and the almighty "patriarchy". Sorry to say, but wake up, this is 2007, and women get ahead because they work hard and they've fought to have the same opportunities available to them as men do. We excel in academics, in sports, arts and we can choose to have a career or a family, or both.
You guys can piss standing up, great, but our bodies can create another human life.
Your entire post is full of pseudo intellectual claptrap.
And sorry, I can safely say, the men in my life do respect me without qualifiers and I'm sure I can say the same for Sarahalyse. I feel sorry for you if you have never met a woman in your life worthy of your utmost respect.

Hey Fitgam,
FYI - I was told by other members who have been on the board for awhile that Mr Shady is a waste of time to agure with because of his piss poor posts. I think he gets his rock off when people argue his sexist posts are wrong. I actually feel stupid for bothering to dispute the last comments he made. His views are in fact jaded, sexist, ridiculous and should just be ignored.
To be honest with you I didn't even read his reply to the posts. I didn't want to waste anymore time on the boy.
PS

You should probably stop trying to act smart, because I can say one thing that will throw off all your logic and probably all your previous based logic, humans have evolved from the primal instincts you are comparing them too, subconcious actions should not be used for psychologically inferred statements about men and women any longer
and also go to gym and workout maybe once in awhile instead of sitting home alone thinking about all this bs, you think this is logic but it really isnt, theres literally millions of ways to talk about this kind of bs, i know this cuz i used to be like you, just not the kind that goes online and bs's everybody
If you're serious about lifting, stay out of the teen forums. Never has so much contradicting broscience and 16 year old certified personal trainers criss-crossed in a confused, hormonal mess.

LMAO!!! Women who lift heavy? I know ONE female powerlifter at my gym and even with a shirt on, I can bench 10 more pounds for 9 more reps (she does one I do 10). She's like 20 something and been lifting 4ever.
For leg press most women do like 2 plates on each side and I do a 4+ easy 10 reps. I just stopped leg press and switched to squats and can do twice as much as what most women do already.
Don't kid yourself. Seriously though.
was he some old man? in 1 or 2 months, if he is a normal male with no genetic decease or otherwise, he'll be lifting as much or heavier than you.

He's telling you a compliment. He's lying. Kinda like when a girl asks a guy ''does this make my ass look fat?'' and he says no. Same thing just happened.
my god... there are some weak guys at your gym if they can't curl 20 lbs with one hand...
Sad.

There's ALWAYS going to be someone who lifts bigger, faster, better than me, and there's ALWAYS going to be someone who lifts lighter, slower, worse than me. The key I think is to show respect to both - the first because he/she's farther along on the road than me, and thus deserves kudos, and the second because he/she has a struggle to get to where I am, and deserves cred for trying. Past that, it seems to me the rest is all posing and bullcrap.

To be honest with you I didn't even read his reply to the posts. I didn't want to waste anymore time on the boy.

Haha... I should have known, but I just couldn't believe the amount of tripe coming out of him. I had to say SOMETHING. Can you imagine what a person like that must be like IRL? What a sad, sad, picture. You rock too, sister!

So you know one woman who lifts heavy and now you know it all?
Granted, most women lift wussy weights, if they do them at all, but that's due to all the misinformation out there about what types of training will benefit women.
Kid, I know some women that can out-squat, out-deadlift and out-curl you in a heartbeat.
Find a woman that can match you pound for pound height and weight-wise and that has been training hard? She'll be just as strong as you.

Just a guy...
I liked your post, so I had to add my comment.
This actually happen to me yesterday @ the gym.
I was basically burned out. I basically did a full body work out. I saved my leg workouts last.
Anyways, I was on the Leg Extensions, give in take I already did 3 sets of 12; highest at the end was 190lbs or so.
An older lady, she looked about 50 or so, asked if she could join in. Anyways, she pulls the pin out and goes the max, which if I remember right was 270lbs. She does it about 8 times, gets off the machine and I get on.
I said ok, not feeling intimidated, just lazy, I keep it there. I did 12 curls. I get off and I waited for her to do it again. She looks at me and said, oh thats it for me. I then did another 12 and she still sits there watching. I get off and I told her that I was impressed that you did it for your AGE. She smiles and we go our ways. Reguardless, I think she wanted to maybe let me know that she can handle it. I just never really understood that concept... no, I don't think she was trying to hit on me
So female or males, I can less to be intimidate by sex. If you can do, then do it.

Oh trust and believe I was not kidding myself and no he was not an old man he was a college student just like I was at the time and don't fool yourself into thinking that just b/c that ONE woman at YOUR gym only lifts two plates on each side that's how we all are because I was easily doing 4 plates on each side and worked my way up to 5 plates on each side....anyways you may not be intimidated by a woman who lifts heavy b/c you don't know any women who lifts heavy.....there is a lady on here who can leg press 1200lbs....so there are a lot of pretty strong women out there so you laughing at the concept of women lifting heavy is just idiotic

Some women don't care. I know a bodybuilding female at my gym who is pretty big I'll admit but she's not really strong but then again, bodybuilding isn't about strength.
Who Rebecca Swansom? Or someone at your gym?
Keep in mind that NO woman my age, my height, who has been training the same amount of time I have, will never be as strong or stronger than me. It's a natural and biological fact. Of course there are women that can outlift me at anything, rebeca swamson for example but I don't personally know her and I'm only 15. She's way older than I am and has been training longer too.

1200... wow amazing. Oh that's SOOOO heavy. OMFG!!!! *faints*
Okay maybe I should quit being an *******.
Is this another e-stat? There's lots and lots of women at my gym, never seen one do more than 3 plates on the leg press. 1200 would be over 10 plates on each side and I've never seen any guy do that either. I've seen some do 8 plates which is 5 plates more.
But a woman will never be as strong as a man if they both train and stuff. It's a fact. Unless of course, the man doesn't lift weights or he has some genetic problem or decease.
