Insulin is anabolic as well as lipogenic. I just felt like posting in here.

depends
take 2 subjects, never used any AAS/slin/anything before.
slinboy takes 10ius of slin PWO for 12 weeks
testboy takes 750mg of test a week for 12 weeks.
at the end who has gained more muscle? testboy
this is becuase slin allows for growth when AAS have stopped working, this is why is called the ultimate hormone. it will always allow for some muscle growth
igf is mostly just for increasing satalite (sp) cells in the muscle, allowing for greater growth down the road. yes it builds immediate muscle, but that is not its sole purpose.Chew Crew

dex (or any high gi carb) is only needed if your daily nutrition (mainly the leadup to your workout) is insufficient. it was once thought that high gi carbs were required to replenish glycogen levels post-wo, however recently it has been discovered that replenishment of glycogen levels is only required if an insufficient diet is in place. so eat properly and you abolish the need of a high-gi carb, allowing you to take advantage of the nutrient density of a low-gi carb like oats
I'll let Alan explain it in more detail;
"Once upon a time, many including myself thought the world of postworkout dex. But here's the thing that everybody missed... ALL data in support of fast-acting substrates postworkout were done on glycogen-depleted subjects who trained after an overnight fast, minus a preworkout meal or shake.The presence of aminos & glucose absorbing into the blood during training as a result of a preworkout meal quite simply eliminates the urgency of the postworkout meal being quickly absorbed.
If you were dumb enough to train vigorously for a long time on a dead empty stomach after waking in the morning, then you definitely need the fastest-absorbing postworkout supplement available. However, if you had either a solid full-sized preworkout meal within 90 minutes or a small preworkout meal or shake within roughly 30 minutes of training, you absolutely don't need a fast-acting postworkout mix. Why? Assuming we're talking about the weight training bout of typical length (60-80 minutes), you'd still be in the tail end of the absorptive phase of the preworkout meal when your training bout is finished."Last edited by Shkip; 07-11-2007 at 10:09 PM.

I actually figured you were refering to the work of Alan Aragon which was cited earlier in the thread. Certainly have no reason to dispute his comments given the credibilty that he brings , however for my specific purposes I typically am going to the gym without the prework ritual he discusses. So the post workout protocol I follow works for my specific needs

During the work week YEP. Especially lately. I typically can get a meal in around 3 but afternoon meetings and driving to the gym puts me their around 6. And I just to always have seen to do better on an empty stomach. Not saying my way is optimal that is for certain...Just seems to be the way it works out for me

Damn, can't even imagine trying to train effectively with no fuel in the tank. But obviously it has worked well for you, Chuck, as you're becoming harder and more shredded by the day.
Simple carbs postworkout is a bodybuilding basic and has long been such, providing dramatic results for so many of the best physiques for many years. Controlling insulin levels is the key, but overlooking the anabolic effects of insulin in the postworkout window seems like a grave oversight for any bodybuilder looking to maximize gains.
