Id say if your 191 go for the 198 lb class by bulkin up unless you could weigh in the day before and make the 181 mark then re hydrate and eat a bunch of food.

If you're just learning and want to just go and have a good time, don't worry about cutting weight. If you really want to compete though, cutting weight can help a lot. I really regretted not cutting weight during my high school's powerlifting season last year. I was about 180-185 pounds, could've lifted in 181 easily, and 165 if I tried hard enough. I ended up getting put out at the meet before the state championships(got 4th place in 198), but I went to the state meet with a teammate, and my total from the meet before wouldve gotten me 2nd place in the 165 or 181 class.
As far as next year(my senior year in HS), I will definately be cutting weight. I weigh about 175-180 right now and will lift in atleast 165, I ultimately want to be in 148. If I lift in 198 I should break the squat record. In 181, the squat and bench I should break and the total is in reach, in 165, the squat bench and total should all be broken, and if I lift in 148 I should smash the squat, bench, total, and the deadlift I should break. OF COURSE, these are all pretty optimistic, but it's just to show how much cutting weight can do for you if you are a real competitor. I also DO have the fat to cut that much weight, if you have a low bodyfat percentage, don't expect to cut very much weight without getting a good bit weaker.Last edited by stout92; 07-12-2007 at 10:38 AM.
