Heh I get this all the time from my mom. The convo usually goes something like this:
Me: So I met this girl..
Mom: Is she black or white?
Me: Does it matter?
I recall when I was younger I would just lie about it (I'd just say the girl was black all the time) b/c there was a point where I was really attracted to white girls simply b/c there were a lot more whites around me than blacks. But I honestly don't care and I don't think my mom entirely gets that. I still find it funny. That is probably why I don't divulge all my love life to her but more to other members of my family. Anyone else w/ a similar experience?

Don't think they've ever asked me. If you get a bit up in the generations in my family I've noticed a bit of racism (nothing overt) but my parents, not even slightly.

Um no, but my mother once rang me to check my boyfriend wasn't Japanese.
I have no idea what brought this on - I'd been with him for 8 years, she'd met him countless times, and he was 6' 1" with blue eyes......very very English looking.
She just went right on one.....WTF?????
Having said that, I live nowhere near my family so they wouldn't know anyway. A lot of them are a bit set in their ways, so I would probably cause a stir if I turned up to a family do with someone who wasn't white, or in fact EnglishMisc Perv #65

My parents only asked me once. My answer was "human" and my mom gave me that "Oh, sorry. Didn't mean it that way" kind of look. Now, they don't ask me anymore.
More on family reunions. I took my fiance to a family reunion a while back (she's asian, but got NICE curves). All of the "cousins" were checking her out, it was hilarious. One of my aunts pulled me aside and asked if my then gf liked "southern cooking". I said yes, she smiled, and then said "Good.........now SHE'S a keeper."

No they have never asked me, but they always tell my sister that if she ever comes home with a black guy, there will be hell to pay.
I cant believe how racist they are about that. and the thing is, its ONLY when it comes to my sister dating. My dad claims its because he overhears how badly his black co-workers talk about women, but white guys do the same thing. Its just a weird way of justifying it.
They probably wouldnt give it a second thought if i brought a black girl home. Oh and btw, (NO RACIST)

My mom only cares if they are white TBH b/c she's tried to hook me up w/ non black girls before. Granted my family is from Alabama, she really wouldn't kick me out or disown me, she would probably make on the sligh comments about it once in a while but thats about it.
On that note I recall one of my aunts (1/2 black 1/2 puertorican) asked me why I like white girls. I told her I like different flavors once in a while not just one!A hit was sent, from the President, to raid your residence /

I actually get that from the parents of the guys I date all the time. They will tell their parents my name before meeting me in person and the parents ask if I'm black.

My parents would probably only have a problem if I ended up with a black girl... Even then they probably wouldn't even say anything to me, but I'd know they'd disagree with it.
They aren't really racist but we live in the deep south and around here the only type of black/white mixed relationships are with a trashy type of people... You know, the type that live in the ghetto on welfare, sit around and drink or do drugs all day...
Around here whites and blacks with class seem to feel the same way (even ones not racist).
Not saying every mixed relationship is like that but I'm saying the city I live in it seems that way.

Yes, it is one of the first things they ask me since my brother goes all united nations with the girls he goes out with. He went out with a chinese, korean, indian, german, etc. My mom also admitted she wants me to marry a white girl simply to keep the whiteness of our family, but she would accept whoever I would marry.

Have any of you been around a lot of people outside your race (like myself) when you were younger?

Man, I hate that question.
After my mom asked me one time, after I answered... "...but one day I'd love to have an Asian because some are freakin hot and probably crazy in bed."
Yeah, I don't see her asking again.
Note: I plan on adopting in the future, which will most likely be an Asian girl or something.
Keeping the white in the family? The most ****ed up thing I heard.

Ahh you're white I take it? My mom tries to give me the guilt trip question 'Don't you want a wife like your mother?'. OUCH!
But its funny to hear this racial preservation stuff from 1) Americans/Canadians since the culture is mostly heterogeneous (trust me Southern Whites and Southern Blacks for example have many similarities) and 2) Devoutly religious people, e.g. most Christians in America.A hit was sent, from the President, to raid your residence /

I guess it's less racist in Canada than in the US, I have seen so many inter-racial couples over there.

They've never asked me and they don't care. Then again my parents are different races.
