    If you don't have a weight belt, get one of your Dad's thick belts (assuming he is bigger than you), use some creativity, and there you go. If not big enough, find some strong rope that you can loop on the belt.

    go to home depot, get a thick climbing rope, usually comes in like 100 feet or something for 5 bucks. then just string the plates through and tie it around your waist like a shoe lace. thats what i did before i got the ironmind super squats

    Until I got a dip belt, I just used my old sturdy leather lifting belt, a chain and some clips. Worked great.

    Before I got my dip belt I held a DB between my thighs close to my package. Was able to get up to 100 pounds that way and is IMO much more effective that holding it between your feet. But I think you should just buy a dip belt. Not too expensive and you'll be less likely to have something crazy happen than if you were to make it on your own.

    Just did some calf raises on my basement stairs with a rucksack filled with water bottles. Worked great.

    I used to use a chain dog leash to attach wieght for dips. I did them between the wooden beams on the second floor of my garage... those were true old school training days.
    Now I go to a fancy gym w/ a leather dip belt.

    I used to do that when I was only adding 10-15 lbs. But as you go heavier, the damn DBs dig into your ankles. Plus it always feels like it's going to fall out and you're worrying about that instead of being focused on the exercise. A dip belt is definitely the way to go.

    I do that too, and sometimes the dumbell is as much as 100 lbs (for dips, but not for pullups). It doesn't seem to be a very popular method here for some reason though.
