Absolute best excercises for lats?
I really need to build my lats, I've been weight training for 6 months and lats are definitely my weakpoint. What is the best way to gain size and definition?

Vertical pulls (weighted chins, close-grip lat pulldowns, etc.)
Horizontal pulls with the elbows close to the torso (various rows, etc.)

Ideally, you want to keep your back straight, and focus on bringing your traps down, then your elbows in one smooth movement. Try to focus on only moving your elbows. You want to pull the bar down towards the front of your neck, kind of. I find the chest is too low and anywhere above the nose is not low enough.
I find this movement involves your lats to the maximum and leaves your biceps our of the move.

There is no "absolute best exercise" across the board.
You have to experiment to see which exercises and rep ranges work best for you.

I like weighted wide-grip pull-ups for lats. Those are best IMO.
Also chins, rows, lat pulls, etc

When I do those I feel it much more in my upper back than in my lats.
I think the best are cg chins.

Supinated and to the lower abdominal region (will stimulate the lats specifically the lower lats)

Muscle Fibers
Look at the way the fibers go from the middle to the outside of the back, rows are one of the best ways to bring out your lats. Sure, pull ups and lat pull downs are great, but put a little rowness? into it an contract your back and lean back with it.
