well the fitness trainer at my school (probably the biggest person i've seen in person, looks exactly like ricky williams hair and all) was talking to a few people in the weight room today and said that bodybuilding is overall pretty stupid if your just getting big.
he said flexibility and endurance are far more important sports-wise. he also said Terrell Owens almost never benches more than 175, he just does a lot of reps. he was like i even did yoga for awhile to improve flexibility and it helped a lot. fyi, he would have joined the philadelphia soul (philly indoor football team) if he didn't come to my school.
any comments?

Heard something interesting the other day
For me life is continuously being hungry. The meaning of life is not simply to exist, to survive, but to move ahead, to go up, to achieve, to conquer.

probably because hes right... If your really into sports bodybuilding isn't the smartest aspect. It's just extra weight that you have to hall around. But for bodybuilding, speed and flexibility don't matter really...
Age = 23
Weight = 189 (Attempting to cut but too much fast food ^^ will figure it out soon)
ARMS : 16.25+

yeah i guess, its just that it seems most people in here are working out for sports (mainly football) and i bet most have no flexibility. just throwing it out there...

Wrong.
Look at Ronnie Coleman he can do the splits, bodybuilding isn't good for sports though you are right. Bodybuilding is a sport of its own, not a very healthy sport but its a sport.Future Goals:
1. 180-185 LBS 8% BF
2. Start boxing
3. Canada Games (With a bodybuilders physique)
Flex Wheeler is the man.
Currently:
1. 195 10% BF

Yea, football players aren't looking to get big just for the sake of getting big. They're looking for the best of both worlds: flexibility, strength, endurance and size (if you're a lineman, though strength is more important but size is for the intimidation factor). Alot of bodybuilders ignore flexibility, stretching etc., and this is a big mistake, IMO.

the extra mass can be helpful to some people in some sports
but overall just getting bigger dosn't really help atheltic performance
(but it can be pretty damn useful for linemen because if they are bigger there is more of them for the other guy to try and move and more of them to use to resist his attempt to move them)
on a soccer player getting bigger is just going to make them work harder to move the same distance in the same time...

Your trainer is obviously talking about sport specific training. Bodybuilding is not optimal for most sports. When I say bodybuilding I mean lifting for size only, negating anaerobic capacity and things like flexibility. Big difference between strength training for sports and bodybuilding.
A king may move a man, a father may claim a son. But remember that, even when those who move you be kings or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God you cannot say "but I was told by others to do thus" or that "virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice. Remember that.
