how old were most of you when you started
im 17 and plan on starting whenever i go to college as there is no coach around here

hmm i was around 12 or 13 when i started, hated it at first since my parents made me use machine only for a whole year, but when i first hit the free weights, i never turned back
275lb atg front squat / 235lb paused bench (in comp) / 445lb Conventional Deadlift using mixed grip/chalk/belt (in comp) / Deadlift-425x3 using a hook grip + chalk / BP low-bar back squat 335x2 & 315x4 & 350x1 (in comp)
A tree with a thin trunk can only make branches so big -me
Won 1st place at my first powerlifting comp!!!!!!!! Yea!!!!!!1

I was fourteen. And unlike a lot of people, I was lucky and had a good coach to start with, unlike the prototypical high school athlete who winds up listening to his football coach that really knows next to nothing about lifting.
Note: I am not knocking all coaches here, however, after witnessing a couple of high-school meets in Florida featuring the bench and C&J, where I would not have passed 95% of the benches and 99.9% of the C&J, I am grateful that I was never 'trained' by any of the 'coaches' there. Scary, really.
