Yeah, the race number is falling off because it was after a 100 mile race in the rain. It is steel and carbon spine. 2006 was the last year Lemond used steel for their spine bikes. Sad! Steel + Carbon = smooth as hell.

    Triathlon

One of my friends is doing Triathlons and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good bike. I figured this would be a good place to ask.

Lightbulb Here's a great shoulders workout!

Take your mountain bike (a road bike is too light to be effective), hoist it up over your head to get it into the bed of your truck. Then take the bike out of the bed of your truck when you reach the ride location.

After the ride, repeat the process of hoisting the bike overhead and putting in the bed of your truck. When you get home, take the bike out of the bed of your truck. You will get a fantastic shoulders workout, especially if you are 5'5".

Seriously, I am risking scratching the truck (Chevy Silverado 1500) and banging the bike by doing this. I'm thinking about getting a trailer hitch-mounted bike rack. Those are the kinds used for SUVs with a trailer hitch, but I wonder how stupid it would be to have one on a pickup truck.

Can't you just open the tailgate, lean bike against it.... jump into the bed of the truck and squat down, and pick up the bike?

I'm too short to reach across the tailgate. I would be leaning too forward with the weight of the bike out in front.

Too much strain on my lower back bending that far forward. I'm too short.

Sometimes it suck being short. OK, it ALWAYS sucks being short.

Why not just pull up parallel to the gate, reach over with one hand and open it? Or maybe Im not visualizing the scenario correctly.

What I thought he meant was to open the tailgate down, stand in front of the opened tailgate (on the ground) and put the bike in the bed behind the tailgate. Then close the tailgate. That's where I would be leaning forward at the waist with the weight of the bike out in front of me to put the bike in.

I checked out Thule bike racks. There is a 2 bike rack for hitches that is $139.00 That's not too bad. I have the spare tire version for my old Jeep Wrangler. That thing was great. I don't know if it can be adapted for the hitch.

    I know... I'm overthinking this.

Thanks. I bought it new in 99. I can't every see parting with it. It should last another 10 years if i keep up with maintainence and change the parts most prone to wear(delrailers, shifters)

    Very cool ride!

And bar ends! Can't find them anymore. I had them on my old mtb. Made me feel like I was riding a charging bull. Hey, simple pleasures for a simple mind.

    Hey man,
I've set these racks up on pickup trucks plenty of times, and I think they look totally normal... if not cool. You've gotta stick it to your front end, and take it off when you're not moving bikes though.... cause otherwise would be pretty lame.
