    Question about intensity

    Hi all,
another question which sparked my curiousity. Some of us on here heavily promote the idea of using intensity as a gauge of fitness or getting the most out of a workout.

But how do you messure intensity?
By how much can you lift?
The highest weight for 1 rep?

thanks a lot for your responses

Low intensity you should be able to carry a conversation high you should not be able to talk.

    bump seadra, again.

maranne, this is an awesome subject. intensity is very hard to define, and it is perhaps the most important element to effective training.

effective intensity is somewhat variable. absolute intensity is defined by mike mentzer in his book, heavy duty. he describes sort of hypnotizing himself into thinking that if he can not complete some reps of a lift, he will die, he manages to really scare himself and provokes a rush of fear and adrenaline, of course he eventually reaches total muscle failure.

this kind of intensity is not for beginners.
