    What was different back then?

This question is inspired by the Ronnie vs Arnold thread. Someone mentioned, well ronnie is so much bigger because there's so many steroids around now. Then someone pointed out that steroids have been around forever, arnold had them too, and they're not much different now than they were then (not the exact quote though). So that just got me curious, if it's not more or better PHs or Steroids or whatever, and it's not really any MAJOR advances in training theory (doesn't seem like too much has changed since Arnie's day) or diet, what is it? What do pro bodybuilders today do differently or what do they have that allows them to put on so much extra mass? Cuz if you look back in the day NOBODY even came close to having the size that Coleman and Cutler and all the other top guys are able to put on. Why is that?

    Just curious.

    1. There is more than just one type of steroids, and I am sure more steroids are available than what there was in the 70's. Plus better PCT's.

    2. Scientific advances in nutrition. Protein powder (Now) vs. Eating 10,000 calories a day (THEN).

Those are probably the two biggest. Plus new exercises, and dieting. Etc.

Another huge factor for todays size in compeditors is GH and insulin use, if one can afford HG.

Actually alot HAS come along in the way of nutrition and training. I've read some diets of guys back then and they didn't eat near as much as pros today eat. That's a HUGE contributing factor. That, plus better training knowledge, better cycling knowledge, better PCT knowledge, etc etc.

same thing happened in every sport..

    What makes a guy run a 9.4 50 meters as opposed to a 12.4 40 years ago?

Every sport progresses and evolves with better training, equipment, nutrition,
computer technology, supplements, KNOWLEDGE of performance enhancing drugs, etc.

i dont know why everyone rags on bb's as drugged out freaks!!! i think people should actually look at the majority of professional athletes in all physically demanding sports....i wouldn't be surprised if 80% of them were on a banned substance

The athletes in every sport have become much more athletic and much bigger. Look at how big baseball players are compared to even 20 years ago. The big football linemen would be as big as the runningbacks of today.

I always get a chuckle out of guys that continually say that guys today take "way more" steroids than guys years ago....

Like there was some sort of line they didn't cross back in the 70's / 80's...

Let me get this right....steroids, which were redily available, cheap, legal, not much knowledge about how how they worked best, were only taken in small dosages by aspiring bodybuilders?????????????

Believe me....they took just as much then as they do now....maybe more.
