Any Nerds out there??
So I have been going through piles of books this summer, and am coming up empty on diverse reading material, I need some inspiration!
Any ladies, or gentlemen out there with some good books you've read lately? Wanna discuss any books you've read?

As far as inspiration goes, there are two I have read somewhat recently that I really liked. "It's Not About the Bike" - Lance Armstrong, and "Ultramarathon Man" - Dean Karnazes. I liked Karnazes' book a lot more.

I just finished reading American Psycho
interesting to me as i study criminal minds but not exactly the easiest of reads.
I like Terry Pratchet for a bit of fun light comedy, they're always good for the train ride to work

If you like light, somewhat mystery books, then I recommend the No. 1 Ladies Detective agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. I think there are seven books in the series now, and they're lighthearted, funny, easy to read books about a lady detective in Botswana.

I have been kinda in the same situation, I just polished off my Biology book, which was actually kinda good. So many interesting things to learn about... okay that sounds sick lol.
Mrs Muscles, what was the UltraMarathon Man about? I'll pick that one up, especially if you thought it was better...
Ooh and comedy, that is something that I really enjoy. Has anyone read Lysistrata? It's a play by Aristophanes, the roman women revolt against the men, it's really cute.

That sounds like a nice break from biology... and something different from what I have been reading. Thanks

I've been really digging books by Augusten Burroughs lately. They're really easy reads for when you don't have much time. He writes about his life (maybe with some exaggeration) which is super-disturbing but...he's very entertaining.
If you want to think a bit, Ayn Rand is fabulous. I really enjoyed Atlas Shrugged (which is about to become a movie starring Angelina Jolie...read the book before you get spoon-fed POV...LOL). Some of the ideas she presents are interesting enough that I would read paragraphs over again to let them sink in...Make sure you have time for her, though. One year it took me 3 tries to get through that book b/c I was in school and had to keep taking breaks that were long enough that I'd have to start over again. LOL
I also like re-reading books that I read as a kid...it's funny how things take on new meaning once you're an adult. Chronicals of Narnia is a good example for me. I read that series when I was 10, so reading it again in my late 20's was a trip.
Maybe it's time to reacquaint yourself with Harry Potter, too, with the last book coming up and all.

That is so true! I've enjoyed re-reading some books that I read many years ago as a kid. Pretty soon I'll have my daughter reading them.

Food for Fitness by: Chris Carmichael. This is a great sports nutrition book. Written by Lance Armstrongs Nutrtionist. Alot of info on what to eat and when to eat during different stages of training. I have read it once and will need to read it again to figure this stuff out. Good book to put you to sleep at night.

Just doin' my thing...
Well, I'm reading (or I should say trying to, BB.com keeps distracting me though, heh) "Science and Practice of Strength Training" 2nd edition, by Vladimir Zatsiorsky & William Kraemer as part of the CEC's I need to get in order to renew my ACE personal trainer certification in November. So far I really like it, I'm just all into that kind of stuff, exercise physiology, human physiology, strength training, nutrition, eh, you know, the stuff BB'rs want to know! Anyhoo... I've got a lot of books, a lot of fictional books that I'd love to read if I had the time. But these days all I have time to read are the educational type books on the subjects I'm interested in and need to have to keep my certification.
Please don't PM me asking for personal help with diet and/or training, I just don't have the time.

Well the last book that I read was The Evil That Men Do, very good read. Had to read it twice to really sink in. Its about what the Germans did to the Jews, and the halocaust, very disturbing. But, I like historical novels.
Edit- Im not a Nazi kinda guy, just like reading books that include events that have actually taken place.

Yes, but some of the things that are in that book i'll warn you, are very disturbing. For ex (and I dont want to ruin the book for you but just a few things) The skulls from them were used as paperweights and the skin as lampshades, and the description of the smell almost made me, well you get the point. I find war novels very interesting.

Chicago Bears #1
Star Wars books are usually all I read. Darth Bane: Path of Destruction and Mace Windu: Shatterpoint were probably my favorites. What I really like about the books is that George Lucas didn't write them.

keep going
Last 3 books I've read have been great
Ed Viesturs "No Shortcuts to the Top: Climbing the World's 14 Highest Peaks" (I am somewhat obsessed with high-altitude climbing and have plenty of other recommendations if this is your thing!)
Gary Shteyngart "Absurdistan" f'ing hilarious
Mark Haddon "A Spot of Bother" (also recommend his first book "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" if you haven't read it)
I am a SNOB to me there is nothing WORSE than a bad book....
That said there is no accounting for taste

My daughter loves reading (she's 12)...and she has enjoyed some of my childhood faves! Tom Sawyer and Black Beauty are a couple she likes. She's finally starting to become amused by Roald Dahl books (instead of freaked out by them), too.

Platform by Michel Houellebecq was the best leisure book I'd read in a while.
I also spend too much time reading for school, and haven't had a chance to read for pleasure very much lately. I could recommend some great articles as a cure for insomnia on international trade policy.
