This isn't a question, just a little comparo I decided to write up for all the "Whats the best weight gainer?" questions...
First off, the Cheapest PER 100 Calorie weight gainer is here:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/un/mj.html
Quick and Dirty
Price: $.13/100 cal
Macro: 18g Fat/152g Carb/55g Protein
Fat source:Medium Chain Triglycerides
Carb source:Maltodextrin and Frutose
Extras: N/A
We see this is cheap, but is little more than a blended protein mixed with sugar.
Now searching through, Lets find a "high quality" gainer...
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/cs/gainer.html
Quick and Dirty:
Price: $.34/100 cal
Macro: 6g Fat/75g Carb/54g Protein
Fat Source: Not listed
Carb Source: "Branching As Well As Long Linear Chain Maltodextrins With Very Low "DE" (Dextrose Equivalence) Providing A Complex Source Approximately 96.5% Sugar-Free"
Extras: Vitamins and Creatine Monohydrate
This is double the price, but has a lower-glycemic sugar and vitamins. However, fat content is low and would have to be replaced.
Homemade:
My recipe involves the following:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/pgold/flax.html
http://www.bobsredmill.com/catalog/i...product_ID=279
It would be a one-time cost of $64, would provide a minimum of 60 servings.
mix 1/4 cup Flax seeds, 2 scoops whey and 1/2 steel cut oats and blend.
730 Cal/serving
Price: $.15 /100 cal
Macro: 23g Fat/74g Carb/70g Protein
Fat Source: Unsaturated fats from Flax Oil, Good for joints
Carb Source: High fiber Flax and low-glycemic Oats
Extras: EFA's in the right ratio
As we can see, Homemade costs little more than the cheap stuff, but provided a far more impressive macro profile and sources than either the expensive or the cheap stuff. The downside to homemade is that is does require some time to prepare. (5 mins whoopty do)
That is all.
