    Who is the Greatest ever Powerlifter of all time??

    Right I've read all about Powerlifting but there is no information on who is the greatest powerlifter of all time, who is the Arnie of Bodybuilding, Kasmeier of Strongman. And why do you think they deserve the crown of G.O.A.T

    Right now it is Ed Coan, but if Garry Frank gets 3,000 I'll give it to him.

    I dont know who is the greatest powerlifter, I dont really care. But kaz is NOT the greatest strongman of all time. That would go to either Sigmarsson or ver Magnusson in terms of WSM success. But in 2 or 3 years, it will be unquestionably Pudzianowski, by that time a 5 or 6 time WSM and 5 or 6 time European Champion, plus other GP wins and other crowns like Super Series etc.

    I'm going with Garry Frank, myself. He's a damn impressive all-around lifter. I think he'll get the 2800, no problem. The man's a beast.

    But how come no one mentioned Paul Anderson, since this is a "greatest of "all time" thread? In 1957, this man "backlifted" 6270 pounds. By which is meant he, with the strength of his entire body, lifted a platform weighing more than most vehicles off the ground and held it.

    ****.

    My idols (and IMO greatest lifters) are mostly guys from a bygone era:
    Pat Casey, Dave Pasanella, Mike Bridges, Lamar Gant, John Kuc, Jon Cole, Doug Furnas, ...

    More recently: Alexei Sivokon (12.3xbw total, IPF, single-ply equipment)

    Cole had a 2370 total IIRC. What was his Oly stuff?

    Interesting that you mention Mike Bridges. He and his younger brother Ed are friends of mine, Ed mostly, Mike's more of an acquaintance. Actually, Mike would probably only remember me by face (and size). I see Ed infrequently, who is a crazy strong 165 (DL PR is 600+), at most once a month when he's out gallavanting the central Illinois nightclubs. I met them at a club I play at years ago (I have a band) and they liked our music. We've (Ed & I) been hammered together many times Ed's hilarious; walking into people, big ass people, hoping to stir something. Whenever I see him, he tries to talk me into competing seriously. He says he'd show me the ins and outs of the equipment. One day I may take him up on that offer if my schedule ever relents for time for serious training.

    These guys are so genetically gifted it's ridiculous. Neither of them imposing physically, it's a marvel they can move that kind of weight - especially Mike. He competes in the masters now and I believe he easily totalled 1818 at Baton Rouge and will be going to the Worlds this year. A lot of WRs came out of that man.
    Anyway, the Bridges blood is elite to say the very least! Mike is a candidate for g.o.a.t in my book.

    These guys are so genetically gifted it's ridiculous. Neither of them imposing physically, it's a marvel they can move that kind of weight - especially Mike. There was talk at my gym by a bench partner of mine, whose cousin used to train with Mike, about Mike competing masters at the Worlds . I don't know any details, though.

    Anyway, the Bridges blood is elite to say the very least! Mike is a candidate for g.o.a.t in my book.
    The Bridges brothers ruled, although if memory serves me right, Ed was mainly a very good DLer; not as all-round as Mike. The best thing about Mike were his oversized RayBan sunglasses. In a sense I feel more connected to him, because he also used to do mainly the big 3, with sparse accessory work. Same works for me. If body parts are lagging, I just use a different technique to tax them more. Can't be bothered to do more exercises.

    His return to lifting was succesful to say the least. At the IPF Masters Worlds 2003:
    Mike Bridges (82,5) (181 Lbs)
    SQ: 320,5 (WR) (706 Lbs)
    BP: 200 (2 misses at a WR 228) (441 Lbs, 2 misses at 502)
    DL: 305 (672)
    Total: 825 (10xbw as a master!!!) (1820)

    BTW: The first thing that comes to mind when you say you are in a band: Crowbar! Those are some hefty guys... apart from the anorexic drummer they have/had.

    Found the statistics. Just mentioning the top 3; the full list is in the December 1994 issue of PLUSA. It's not very recent, so it's missing Hamman. He is most likely the new number 1. He still won't beat Cole on coefficient, though. Cole was only 286!!!

    All-time greatest strength athletes:
    (bodyweight, SQ/BP/DL/PLTotal + SN/C&J/OLTotal = COMBINED TOTAL)

    1. Jon Cole
    @286: 901/610/882/2393 + 340/430/770 = 3163

    2. Antonio Krastev
    @380: 860/463/760/2094 + 485/860/1058 = 3141

    3. Bill Kazmaier
    @320: 926/661/887/2474 + 286/374/661 = 3135

    It was my first gym. An awesome place. We actually had coaches (not trainers) who would be there for spots, advice, etc. It was also cool to see Jon squat 600lb like he was taking out the garbage.

    Gee, I inserted one value from an incorrect column. Anyone with half a mind would realise this might be the case and look at the sum total of the Olympic lifts. Whip out your calculator and you'll find the number should have been 573.

    STFU and start contributing before criticising others who just made an honest mistake.
